Why does the Church focus so much on suffering?

Religion attracts more than it’s fair share of people with morbid obsessions. Just ignore them and focus on enjoying the ride!

It’s just overdone. I get that suffering is a part of life…but do we need to constantly dwell on it? No. There needs to be more balance. Nothing wrong with a little positive thinking and enjoyment. Something about Catholicism feels terribly medieval. Like much of this probably developed in the middle ages and the church just never moved past that era.

I’d even dare say that Western Catholicism may even trigger depression and anxiety in some people… it can easily become the actual cause of suffering in some individuals.

When problems occur, aren’t they really reaching out to God( people)? Suffering motivates us to draw near instead of away, in that no one wants to be in a painful situation. “Help me Lord with this”; “Why does God allow suffering”? “Why me”? All of these are directed to God, and can be a prayer.
