=mrspjm;8400053]I feel very strongly called to enter the Church at 54. I was raised as a Protestant (Baptist), was baptised as an early teenager. I drifted away over the years. I have done a lot of studying and have not found anything about the faith that I cannot fully embrace. I know a lot of people who are members of the Church who actually know less about their faith than I have learned from my study and reading. And I know Catholics who do not even believe in transubstantiation or the Real Presence or go to confession but still receive Communion. It is very painful for me to attend Mass and be required to deny myself the Eucharist because I am not “technically” Catholic.
I do not understand why the Church makes it so difficult for people to enter it. Today I attended an Episcopal Church a half hour drive away from my home because they have an “all are welcome” policy regarding Communion, and I felt a desperate need to receive it. But I do not understand why it is necessary for it to be this way!! My current schedule makes the RCIA impossible.
Prayers and any suggestions would be very much appreciated…thank you and God bless you.
***You raise some very valid issues about “un” Catholics who claim to be Catholic. Still that does not answer your questions; so please, my friend allow me to add a different perspective.
Faith as it relates to ones personal salvation is not as much about what the Church does or does not permit; rather it is about you and your [OUR] God, on a very personal level.
From this perspective what the CC does makes a great deal of sense. We have what is termed the four NECESSARY sacraments of initiation as a requirement for entry into the CC. Why?
Be assured it for your Spiritual benefit. All seven of the sacraments are instituted by God, and all of them are for the benefit of humanity as God is already perfect.
Baptism; which sounds to me is validly received by you already, makes you a member of the Christian community. And that is a good thing. But there is more to ones Spiritual life then simply being a member of “the community.” Catholics are more like family. Our roots are traceable back directly to he very apostles we read about in the Bible. The RCC is the ONLY Faith and ONLY Church actually founded by Christ Himself.
Baptism opens us up to the possibility of additional graces. Sacramental graces, which do effect, as Christ determines they would; the possibility of us attaining our salvation.
KNOW my friend, that while salvation MAY BE possible if one is not a Catholic; under very strict conditions; we Catholics have the “inside” track because we are the only ones [all Catholics included here], that are doing what Jesus actually taught and commands. This is where the other three sacraments come into “play.” Confession [John 20:19-23] permits Catholics to actually KNOW that are sins are forgiven. Not guess; not hope; KNOW! A pure soul is required to enter into the CC in order that one may receive Jesus Himself in Person in Catholic Holy Communion. [Don’t beleive the claims of OSAS; the Sinners Prayer, Faith or Grace alone… all of this is man-made frabrications.
One must be an informed, practicing Catholic W/O any un-Confessed - unforgiven Mortal sins in order to receive Christ Worthily. St. Paul warns in a most frightful manner of what happens to those who choose to receive Jesus unworthily. [COLOR=“Blue”]1 Cor. 11: 28-30 “Let a man examine himself, and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup. For any one who eats and drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment upon himself. That is why many of you are weak and ill, and some have died” The “death*” referenced here is Spiritual death: Hell.
Then comes the Sacrament of Confirmation were each person enters into a Personal-Covenant-Relationship directly with God. Each person is committing to know, and obey both ALL of Gods commands and all of the commands of God’s church. If one is not aware of these through a proper formation; which is not possible on ones own; then one can hardly be qualified to make such a serious commitment. GOD will hold us to what we commit to know and to do. And that my friend is why RCIA is an absolute necessity. It is for YOUR benefit as much as it is for the CC.
It is my prayerful hope, that this is of help to you.
God Bless,
Pat**
