I’m sure this is a very old question but I’ve not yet seen an answer.
Could you tell me why the Vatican hangs on to what must be a vast treasure? It’s so easy to be very sarcastic about this as was a presenter on Revelation TV this week. Of course, ex-priest Morris West had the answer in his book The Shoes of the Fisherman. But in real life? Wouldn’t the Catholic Faith have more credibility if that wealth were used to ease real hardship? Wouldn’t a religious’ vow to poverty not stand so much in contrast?
