If you rely on the “scriptures teach” then you are in big trouble.
What scientific knowledge is in there? Nada.

In big trouble? Please explain. Enlighten me as to the big trouble I am in as I seek to follow what the scriptures teach. It would be particularly helpful if you could sort of sumarize how I am in ‘big trouble’ based on believing in and striving to follow the teachings of the scriptures in general (rather than being ‘cute’ and quoting on particular thing and putting some sort of spin on it).

Well thank you for all the many great replies that have been given. I have to say that one of the reasons why I started this thread is to get many perspectives. I myself have OCD and my sister was born with A Cleft Palate, which was very sad. Thankfully she has had surguries before and looks like any one of us now.
I think both of us are really grateful to God. I have seen that OCD can be more of a blessing than a bad thing. OCD has made me quite scrupulous, which can be hard at times, but it has also made me rely in God’s grace, love, and mercy.OCD also tends to help me in many ways check things to make sure they are working properly, and has helped me in many ways.
I think that Human suffering happens for many reasons, reasons we might know why, others that we may not.

**John 9:1-5
9 As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. 2 His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” 3 “Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him. 4 As long as it is day, we must do the works of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work. 5 While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”

Allow me to speak personally for a moment: I work as a counselor for a camp with kids during the summer, and we have a few kids with special needs, with mental handicaps. And yes, these kids have abnormalities and aren’t completely normal, but this doesn’t make them any less of a person, and as a believer I can see the great value in these kids that others would not see. To others these kids might be an unnecessary burden on the rest of the staff and with the other kids, but there is such a profound innocence and sincerity as a result of their mental disabilities that it is really inspiring and it instills a deep seated empathy not just for them personally but for everyone. And you’d be surprised how much of an effect interacting with someone with a mental or physical disability has on you in terms of character and such.
And as the scripture above says, from a spiritual perspective I believe the purpose these difficulties have is for our edification, so that the work of God (which is almost always in partnership with us) might be manifested through such people in ways all together unique than what we might not experience in the course of our daily lives which might typically be spent solely with people who are similar to us who don’t have abnormalities and such.
Having such people in our lives allows us to say no to an animalistic inclination and say yes to a higher calling. The animalistic inclination is to let the weak die and see the strong thrive, but when we care for such people who are dealt such tough hands with disabilities and so on, we are saying yes to a higher calling that imparts a special dignity to each and every person based on their basic humanity and not on what skills they have or what they can provide.
