Why doesn't God answer prayers?

And was it absolutely essential to bring your kids somewhere during mass time on Sunday?

It was not your fault you missed Saturday mass if you were working. God knows that

Haha, downloading copyrighted books without paying for them is piracy.

And Pope Francis has said piracy is one of the big sins of the modern catholic world!

Stealing is a mortal sin even if it is digitally done 😭
Surely not as I didn’t know it was piracy, I guess reading the bible and catechism online is also piracy?

Downloading books copyrighted by other authors,

The bible and catechism are made free.

But the ‘Jesuit guide to almost everything’ is not a free book. It is piracy to download it without paying

It’s not enough to just pray for humility (a frequent prayer of mine as well 🙂) you also need to practice at it! though you may fail, you will see that God will help you grow in this virtue.

We are supposed to pray constantly, so don’t be afraid to call on the Holy Spirit to help you when you are really in need. Just a quick prayer to yourself (“Come, Holy Spirit. Help me to be humble in this situatoin.”)

It is our responsibility to grow in virtue. God will help, but we need to do some work too.

I wouldn’t even know where to begin, it is like someone talking about growing my own strawberries, I wouldn’t know where to start.

You need help, dude. You really do. I’ve become familiar with your posts and it’s as plain as day. I get that complaining can be cathartic but it’s not going to make anything better. Maybe what God wants you to do is take some initiative and get help instead of just moaning that Hes not fixing everything for you.

I think Nelka you should ask your priest could he be your spiritual director and meet with you monthly.
Just to discuss your concerns.

Firstly I didn’t steal it, secondly I didn’t download it, thirdly whenever someone mentions a good book to read the first thing I do is to see how many pages it contains.

Oh good! I thought you downloaded the pdf of a copyrighted book , which would have been piracy

Just a nudge in the right direction would be nice, or to know that I am trying hard enough?

You know some people who tried to please their parents growing up but never could? I feel like that.

He still might not mind staying meeting with you for spiritual direction, of after you can ask the new priest

Sure you do!

What is humility? Lowering oneself.

Take some advice from Mother St Teresa of Calcutta!
  1. Speak as little as possible about yourself.
  2. Keep busy with your own affairs and not those of others.
  3. Avoid curiosity (she is referring to wanting to know things that should not concern you.)
  4. Do not interfere in the affairs of others.
  5. Accept small irritations with good humor.
  6. Do not dwell on the faults of others.
  7. Accept censures even if unmerited.
  8. Give in to the will of others.
  9. Accept insults and injuries.
  10. Accept contempt, being forgotten and disregarded.
  11. Be courteous and delicate even when provoked by someone.
  12. Do not seek to be admired and loved.
  13. Do not protect yourself behind your own dignity.
  14. Give in, in discussions, even when you are right.
  15. Choose always the more difficult task.
There are your 15 seeds. Pick one.

Read the rest of the article. It’s a great place to start. You need to take some initiative and stop looking for an easy way at out. (Hint: practice humility by reading the 483 page and take its advice)

And stop focusing on God’s Justice,

Yes avoid mortal sin at all costs (which is something you may not have been doing? You and your pastor need to discern that, as missing mass may have been unavoidable for your situation that day as a Father),

Focus on seeking God’s mercy and trusting that if you try your best, pray, avoid mortal sin, attend confession/ mass, that you will reach Heaven.

And I’m saying the way you feel might be a product of your mental health, not an accurate representation of reality.

Is God ignoring you? Probably not, but your depression might be creating that perception. Imagine, for example, you went suddenly and temporarily blind and could no longer see your hand in front of your face. Does that mean your hand actually vanished? Of course not, but the medical condition (blindness) would give you that perception.

I’m not saying don’t pray to God for help, but you also need to meet Him halfway and help yourself.

What is it that you need or would like and don’t have that brothers you?

Have you seen your Dr about this and have blood work done to make sure you are healthy? Some people have vitamin difecincies or thyroid or other hormone imbalances that cause depression or other problems and is easily corrected.

Have you always had this kind of mental health issue? There are some mental health issues that people are genetically prone to and seek a mental health professional for. Again blood work should show if you are low in certain hormones.

Is this circumstancal? A major trajody in life can cause people to suffer from trauma or depression…it would be good to see a counselor in that case to help you work through those emotions or grieving.

No matter what the issue is God will help you, but you may not realize how much He is helping you. A young lady who is pregnant and homeless has been threatening to commit suicide for the past week or so almost daily. I hope you are not homeless, pregnant and considering suicide and homicide? By God’s Grace, yes?

Do go to the Dr please and have blood work done. Also, talk to a Spiritual director. I highly recommend an Ignatian retreat…there is much healing grace through those. God bless you.

Then it is especially important that you have those checkedat least every year. You may also want to look for a Dr who is well known in endocrinology for a second opinion…there may be other medicines that are known to work better.

Do you have your blood work checked every year and is everything in balance and stable now?
