Why don't I find anything during my daily examination of conscience?

I’m a little worried that every time I start reflecting on what I did wrong that day, I didn’t find anything! Then I just say “oh pride, because I’m not perfect and I think I am.”

What’s going on here?!

Also, Scapularkid, once you start turning-up those venial sins that grow like weeds in our lives (small and hard to notice at first, then obvious and hard to deal with), using the examination of conscience, you will probably find that you are not very “creative,” that is, that you keep commiting the same few sins over and over. Personally, I thank God for this lack of “creativity” many of us have, as it is hard enough to root out these habitual sins without commiting new ones to deal with! 🙂

So, nowadays, as I force my muddled mind though its nightly examination, I tend to review my habitual sins and that usually turns up all that I need to acknowledge. Even when I use a good examination of conscience for Confession, I don’t find too much that I’ve not seen already with this abbreviated nightly ritual. Of course, feeding the new baby a couple of times while everyone else is asleep each night will give me a great chance to try to bring my mind to bear on more detailed prayer! 😃

When I was at your age and even older, I never had my daily examination. The only time I did was when I went to the confession. When I examined myself, I was looking for something that I might done terribly wrong. As the result, I never saw the little things that I had not done right.

Maybe you can focus on what your daily tasks are and how you relate those things to God and people around you - your parents and siblings, friends, or co-workers.
