I watched Rosalind Moss one day on EWTN and she was talking about how before 70AD there would have been so much sacrifice that the blood was flowing down the temple stones.There was maybe 20 million (I would like to find out how many for sure) Jews, so she said if you can imagine 50 thousand of lamb calves , or more, brought to the stones that one day a year. She said the blood would have just been pouring down like a river all around the stones and the ground. It would have just been flowing down the hill.
I’m not sure if you are referring to the movie or are discussing an aspect of Judaism. All services during Sukkot use the etrog. I assume that what you are saying was that in the movie, the jews using the etrog were Hasidic Jews.
Hmm! Thanks I wasn’t sure what the cousins part had to do in the movie as they were the new secular Jew and the attitude was bad towards them because they were escaped from prison. (Ushpitzin) The movie shows the different aspects of the what I call schisms of the Judaism. And I thought the couple seemed orthodox but different, but they never mentioned the Messiah or Jesus Christ but did mention prayer a lot, and the fact that they don’t have to be in a synagogue to pray.

Even assuming the numbers are correct and all 20 million lived withing walking distance of the Temple, they would not all be offering sacrifices. That’s not to say that Temple worship would not shock the sensabilities of most people today. Aside from the noise and sights of animals being slaughtered, I’m sure by the end fo the day, many of the priests were pretty tanked on wine.

You are probably more healthy for it. I am liking fish more these days. I just gross out picturing people cutting off a chicken head and then flinging that thing around and splurttering blood all around while doing a chicken dance, and maybe drinking the blood. Just yuk! If I were you I wouldn’t watch any more of those movies. I guess circumscion doesn’t seem so wicked after all that dead chicken talk. Some of those Indianna Jones movies are kind of grossed out too with all the cultish stuff he uncovers.

Keep in mind that many of the sacrifices were also used as food. The majority, in fact.
