Why don't Protestants learn Catholic Church history?

I didn’t know much about the early Christian history and the teachings of the Early Church Fathers but I think this subject is beginning to take on more interest in the Protestant apologists. I watch one Pastor frequently on Youtube and have learned much from his teaching. I have also noticed more references to the Early Church Fathers from the LCMS churches locally. To me, it seems that there is more interest in learning what these men taught - especially those who were direct disciples of the apostles.
Mainline Lutheranism is much more likely to rely on Tradition than your typical “Bible church”.

I agree. The guy I’ve been listening to is a Reformed Baptist, and, unless I understand them wrong, I believe that they’ve gone back to the teachings of the reformers rather than the “fire and brimstone” and “altar calls” services.

I was baptised in an LCMS church, went to one of the Synodical colleges and taught in several Lutheran schools over the years. I have only recently been aware of references to some of the early church fathers in sermons and Bible studies. That also may mean that I didn’t pay attention to references until my recent interest being piqued by discussions here and those of the pastor on YouTube.

Thanks, RC

Rita
