Why don't they just translate the Tridentine Mass?

Would the universe end if the TLM was translated into English and celebrated?

Would the world end if the Nova Vulgata were translated into English?

I think both things should happen and I think neither will happen.

Why? Because it would blow up the Latin lovers universe and it would also blow up the rinky dink and error filled English translation universe of the bible.

Does it strike anyone as the least bit strange that the Holy Bible–the greatest book in the world is not translated into English directly from Latin and the Latin Mass–maybe one of the greatest liturgies in the history of the world is not translated from Latin into English?

But ALL kinds of EVERYTHING else are translated from Latin into English by the Holy See EVERY single day!

something is wrong with that picture!

Pray that one day BOTH things will happen.

The universe wouldn’t end if they did happen.

In fact if both things happened it would bwe a great thing in the life of English speaking Catholics.

They’d see the beauty of TLM and the beauty of the Hloy Bible.

What would be wrong with that?.

Why is that strange? The Bible isn’t written in Latin, so the best Latin and English translations will each be prepared independently from the original source text. Few people would have any interest in reading the Bible in English to find out, “What does the Nova Vulgata say?” They want to know what the Bible says, which is why a second-generation translation is not seen as desirable.
. . . and the Latin Mass–maybe one of the greatest liturgies in the history of the world is not translated from Latin into English?
Plenty of English translations of the old Mass have been done. Are you asking why the Vatican hasn’t done one and announced, “For people using the Latin Mass, this is our official translation of what it says,” or why the Vatican decided to compose a new (1970) Mass rather than simply allow the 1962 Mass to be said in some (official) translation. The answer to the first question is that such a non-liturgical translation is just for private convenience and thus of no particular importance to the Church since other people are doing it just fine, and so there is no cause for the Church to craft an “official” version. The answer to the second question is that shifting from Latin to the vernacular was only one of the desires of the Council; the changes they wanted went well beyond just translating the Latin word-for-word into English.

I think if we did have an English translation of the Nova Vulgata that people would know much better “what the bible says” than they know with the current Catholic translations of the bible into English.

I also think that if people who didn’t know Latin went to mass and heard TLM in English that they would have a much better appreciation for TLM.

How would that be a bad thing?

I think St. Thomas More had a good point in condemning all English translations of the Bible. It’s better to stick to the codified (and Christianized) language of the liturgy and have your pastor explain it to you as the Council of Trent required. Latin is an integral part of the “Tridentine” Mass and that’s all I’m going to say on this thread.

I agree that if you learn Latin you’ll better understand the bible and the Mass.

I do WISH that the people who do English translations of the bible would be as earnest and exacting in their translation of the bible as people who love the Latin Mass are earnest and exacting in offering the liturgy to God as the best sacrifice they can offer.

I think that many Latin Mass lovers are like Abel and that some Catholic
English translators of the bible are like Cain.

I hope people here don’t get me wrong–I do believe in Sacred Tradition and the Magisterium of the Catholic Church as it TRUELY teaches the bible.

I just wish that as much effort would be made in translating the bible correctly as is made in trying to discern true Sacred Tradition and as much effort is made as the Catholic Magisterium makes as it TRUELY teaches the deposit of the faith.

The Sacred scriptures are the third part of that triad.

It seems like the Catholic Church really tries to get the liturgy RIGHT.

Am I wrong in saying that the people who translate the Sacred Scriptures don’t do as well?

That was because those who support the Latin Mass are more loyal to Emperor Charlemagne who ordered the Latin Mass in year 800, than the true Apostolic Roman Catholic Church. Vatican II was designed to bring the Mass back to its original roots, a Mass in the language of the people. Vatican II also utilized Eucharistic prayers that date back to year 80.

God Bless
Got any more of that Kool Aid you’ve been drinking?

All hail emperor Charlemagne. Wasn’t he a king? Lol I am sorry but your comment is just way too funny!

Mmmmm, this deserves a look from the moderators imo. What a horrible, ignorant thing to say.

The very idea that the faith of the church must first be expressed in Latin before it can be expressed in a living language is absurd. Yes, the truths of our faith are rooted in languages like Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek but they have long since been translated into languages Christians actually speak, read, and write. I have no problem with an editio typica but only so that the successors of the apostles in each modern language grouping can have a reference point. The Vatican II document on the sacred liturgy gave that authority to bishops conferences and to the Holy See the authority to confirm. That has been turned on it’s head by a cabal of hierarchs determined to roll back the developments in Catholic worship begun at the council. The fact that the new translation is more Latin like in syntax and style presents a problem, not a solution. The solution was the 1998 sacramentary based on more than 15 years of careful study and consultation with clergy and laity alike. Shhhhh, no one’s supposed to know that.

A conspiracy? Oh no! No one is trying to role back the clock.

And thank heaven for that! I ❤️ our cabal of hierarchs!
