Why Don't We Evangelize During Public Social Events?

I realize our culture has changed somewhat (people don’t linger on street corners much in my city) but the idea might be applied in other ways. The approach was not “You need to convert now” but “here’s the truth”.
I understand your point but this is the 21st century. People mostly search on the internet and in that sense, CAF can serve to spread the good news. IMO, speaking in street corners is not effective but anyone is welcome to try it.

I live in the northern Texas Panhandle, and in my area the Protestants are the ones doing this kind of thing. Usually, they’re out yelling at people with a megaphone that they’re going to go to hell if they drink or if they don’t pray or “accept Jesus onto their heart”. (Baptists, I think.)

Otherwise, it’s the Mormons and the Jehovah’s Witnesses going door to door, being polite with their speech but not taking a hint when you politely say back that you don’t have time, thanks and have a nice day.

I don’t think the Catholic parishes here want to be associated with any of the above, and I don’t blame them.

I really think that it’s more counterproductive to do these sorts of things. It’s almost as if you’re yelling at them.

It has some limited usefulness in areas such as college campuses, where people are often rather adrift and may be consciously or unconsciously seeking some kind of parental authority figure to yell at them, coupled with a supportive community group to spend social time with. Or else they may just be weak and easily influenced by whoever is shouting the loudest.

I remember there was a guy who did the yelling-with-a-megaphone thing in support of some fundamentalist Protestant group (IDK if it was Baptist or something else, it was Bible-based) on my undergrad college campus. He was yelling and asking people if they were Christian. I told him I was Christian because I was Catholic. He started yelling that Catholics weren’t Christians and quoting Bible verses. I’d never heard such a thing before, felt insulted and walked away. Somebody else might have gotten sucked into that.

You could always just hand out divine mercy cards with a rosary as was done during wwii. I’ve given rosaries to people I believe will use it.

In fairness, the one way to really alienate and annoy people is to treat your religion like it’s an MLM scheme. Perhaps it’s a good thing that Catholics don’t go knocking on doors or give out candy during parades.

Sounds like you’re in our near Amarillo. I’m in Amarillo! Hi neighbor!

Yes indeed, I’m in Amarillo too. Howdy neighbor! Hope you and yours are doing well and safe, given current conditions.
