Why don't we see Moslems praying?

I have been wondering about this. Moslems are supposed to pray five times a day, using certain rites. If Moslems are traveling, for example, or at an eight hour job, you would think that you would see Moslems praying in such ways. But I never have. I wonder if I don’t understand Moslem prayer customs, or what? I am just curious

We do. Perhaps you’re in the wrong place at the wrong times?

I know that my Syrian “son” is not overt about his prayer time. He has a corner in his room set aside with his prayer mat, facing Mecca and at certain times of the day he just slips away and goes to pray. Sometimes he has done so in front of me, especially in the summertime when he prefers to pray outside. (He wouldn’t pray now outside on his knees… since it’s been so unbearably cold out there)

Maybe the ones you are around are similarly private in their prayer lives.

I shared a house with a flatmate who was Muslim. Same deal as the last poster has described.

If I told people that I said morning and evening prayers from LOTH, most of them would probably say ‘do you really? I’ve never seen it’. Well, I live on my own, and tend to pray on my own, msot of them wouldn’t! My close family knows, but not many other people.

Not me!

I see them all of the time especially for friday prayers. They would all, 100’s and 100’s of them line up in NYC on a particular street on 34th on a muslim neighborhood with their mats.

They would take up an entire city block and if you know NYC it has long streets.

Also, at my office in a big NYC corporation, it didn’t matter what was going on, meetings, deadlines, projects, brain storming, scrum strategy, they would walk out of the rooms with their mats in their bags and well, you can guess the rest.

No one would utter a word.

I’ve even seem them on the NYC transit trains and in Penn station. If they would be in the train they would go to the vestibules and do their thing. It didn’t matter who was standing at these vestibules, we all had to move for them.

I suspect that, given the opportunity, they usually pray at home or have a room set aside at work.

I have seen them pray in public when there doesn’t seem to be an opportunity to pray privately, for example, when attending an outdoor special event or at an amusement park.

I suspect that this kind of people are also trying to say that their religion is better than ours. Spiritually weak Christians will say how beautiful, how touching to see them pray.

Maybe what they are really doing is PREYING. Preying to entice people and make them believe that this false religion is really a peaceful one. Attract people to believe in the lies of muhammad and his quran.

I always wondered why muslims want Non muslim to work their businesses. One logical reason, as sited in the earlier post, Non muslims will not leave their work stations to pray like their hypocrite buddies.

My next door neighbor used to go inside her home and pray in her bathrobe… the only way I knew was that we were chatting one day when the hour of prayer came upon us and she excused herself and told me it was prayer time… then when she came back out she was in her bathrobe…

I am an Egyptian , we pray outside because there si no mosque space . ( Yes in Egypt there isnt enough mosque space ) . It is a majority Muslim country and we don’t do that to show off. I woudl gladly and at any time go inside where i can cover from teh wind and the rain and the dust and teh noise. It is a very common problem facing muslism praying, simply no space .

I would urge you to not assume the worst of people. if you feel Christians are spiritually weak . Don’t blame it on muslims please. Just because you think i drive a better car doesn’t mean i am intending to show off my car. Work hard and may be you get a good car.

Yeah you may think your driving a better car now but will it lead you to the right destination? I would rather walk with the ONE who work hard on calvary than ride anything that leads to eternal anguish.

i mentioned the car as an example. And not necessarily what looks to be the best turns out to be the worst! I mean , teh law of moses looked better than the law of Pharoh and the law of moses willl not turn out to be worst on judtement day .

People often get confused if they see a person praying by themselves somewhere in public. So when I have to pray in public I try to be out of the way, at least.

Most often I will pray

(a) at home, in my room
(b) at the mosque
(c) in my cubicle at work (no prayer room at the office)
(d) in the stairwells at school (out of the way)
(e) in the official “prayer room” at the university in the library (though I’m seldom in that part of campus)
(f) in the prayer area of a friend’s home if I’m visiting them

I plan my day around the prayer time, so it’s not very often that I am not somewhere convenient to pray. I have prayed at a basketball arena, football stadium, movie theater, public park, in the woods, a parking lot by my car, and other strange places, but I do try at least to be somewhere where that I won’t have to worry about finding a space to pray without too many distractions or being in the way.

When it comes to Friday prayers, Muslims go. This is basically the equivalent of a Sunday church service, so I’m kind of annoyed that posters don’t approve of Muslims attending, especially since they will go to work before and after the service.

On Fridays there might not be enough space in the mosques to accommodate all the people who want to pray, there are so many, so they might overflow out of the buildings into the streets and parking lots.

I think this is rude trdchubi… I do admire the muslims I know for their prayer life… I don’t think they have the truth but I think that Christians can learn something from their devotion to prayer if indeed it is not coerced, which in my experience it has not been but we still see reports of mandatory prayer punishible under law in some countries.

Where I work we are almost all Catholic, we go to mass together on Holy Days… does the fact that we have a Protestant working for us mean that we are exploiting her to work while we pray?

Wow it isn’t often I feel the need to defend Muslims… this is a switch…

Agreed. A question was asked about how they pray, they are answering it charitably, without attacks on how others pray. So why all the anger from some people here? I don’t think it paints a good picture of some here.

A travellor is supposed to offer short prayer & is allowed to offer it while sitting . Normally we do it standing.

If u browse u will see some reports that US Police arrested Muslims to offer prayer inside the plane & how Pilot & passengers embarrased to see Muslims uttering Allahu Akbar ( only God is great).

prayers only take few minutes . If u give more importance on works & gives preferences on works over your prayers , it’s not good for your hereafter.

I only hope , no Muslims should use prayer as an excuse to delay work unnecessarily. In a busy time , s/he should finish prayer asap.
