Any former (or current) JWs on here have any enlightenment?
 
According to my sisters ex-boyfriend, who was JW, it is because jerks tend to come and smash them.

I don’t know if this is true, but it seems plausible.

The Wikipedia entry for Kingdom Hall mentions this as the reason, and cites the Watchtower’s tract Awake! as the source.
