I thought we’ve clearly established that the Orthodox are in the right in all matters (heck, that’s what ORTHO-DOX means), and that any complaints we can hurl at Catholics are purely one-sided.

I find this a rather disturbing request, and so this will be my last post on this particular thread.

I will conclude with this: so far on this thread I have been called triumphalist and obstinate, and merely because of how others don’t like how I express my Christian identity. And now it is being inferred that I’m disrespectful to Eastern Orthodox Christians if I continue to openly identify myself as being Orthodox in communion with the Bishop of Rome.

Please understand I’m not angry at any of this. I don’t feel slighted. I hold no grudge toward anyone; life’s just too blessed for such things. But I cannot escape the irony of how uncharitable it is to be labeled as triumphalist, obstinate, and disrespectful because others are unhappy with how I label myself.

I’ve already explained in detail why I refer to myself as Orthodox in communion with the Bishop of Rome. I don’t apologize for this, as there is nothing to apologize for. It has nothing to do with disrespecting others, nor is it for the purpose of being inflammatory. It is my catholic identity. It is my orthodox faith. For anyone to claim that saying so is disrespectful to others’ sensitivities is akin to a person on a diet being angry at someone else eating a pizza.

We shouldn’t ignore our differences, but my goodness we’ve got to stop over-magnifying them, as if gathering pebbles so as to build walls. Straining the gnat and swallowing the camel is good for no one.

Jay: I apologize. I was merely describing my own reaction to the views that you espoused. I only wished to express how an Orthodox Christian (only one, that is) might react to those views upon hearing them, in order to demonstrate how all parties involved are not on the same page. That was all. I should not have used such harsh words.

I hope I was clear that ultimately, it doesn’t matter what I think, and that I respect your decision to view yourself as however you want. Please do not take any of my remarks as personal attacks, even if they came off that way. I regret participating in this discussion.

All Catholics are Orthodox. Even Latin Catholics. We say so in the Te Igitur of the mass.

Te igitur, clementissime Pater, per Iesum Christum Filium tuum Dominum nostrum, supplices rogamus ac petimus uti accepta habeas, et benedicas, haec dona, haec munera, haec sancta sacrificia illibata, in primis, quae tibi offerimus pro Ecclesia tua sancta catholica: quam pacificare, custodire, adunare, et regere digneris toto orbe terrarum: una cum famulo tuo Papa nostro N. et Antistite nostro N., et omnibus orthodoxis, atque catholicae, et apostolicae fidei cultoribus.

Catholics consider themselves Catholic and Orthodox, and Orthodox consider themselves both Catholic and Orthodox. We cannot stop calling ourselves Orthodox anymore than we can stop saying the mass.
 
The barbarians are at the gates! the rise of a caliphate and of atheism should unite us as never before. Our brothers and sisters are dying-Orthodox, Catholic, Christian-and we sit here arguing. Can Christ be divided? .I am impatient when I see infighting, especially between RC and OC. Such much history (some bad) but we were together for a thousand years. Come together- we have common enemies- there are people out there willing and wanting to remove our heads from our bodies. We do the same thing figuratively. We should have unity-we have common cause-common love.
We are all of the one Body.

The world is in conflict-we have seen in history what happens -evil rises when good men do nothing.It looks alot like evil is winning right now.Pray hard one for the other.
Pray for the martyrs (witnesses)- that their blood was not shed in vain that good seed will come from the ground they watered.
