Why Elohim if God is Absolutely One?

The Jews were to keep the scriptures intact [and see the Messiah for Who He is and many did] Jesus handed over all authority to His Apostles [who were Jews] and they converted the gentiles and Jews the first day 3000 were baptised.

Had the Jews been supremely stubborn and could not see Jesus for Who He is, none would have converted.

3000 the day the Apostles came out of the upper room with courage and spoke simultaneously several languages while only speaking in their own tongue…was an evident miracle.

HAD the Jews not seen this - nor saw the empty tomb, do you seriously think they would have just taken the Apostles for their word?

And let’s not forget - Paul didn’t come til later.
Ok.
The simple believes almost everything.

Well, that you see it as God intended it is what counts, whether we are Christians or Jews, isn’t it? But how do you KNOW that you are doing just that? Through the words of your rabbi? Isn’t the Word of God more than what our finite minds can discover in It? How can you be sure that all the commentaries said all there has been to say on the Scriptures?
Do you see me here using the words of Rabbis or only the Scriptures?

Ben, I am grateful to the Jews for what you mention here. Indeed it is true.
Wow! What a relief it is! What took you so long? Now, the next step is to accept the Faith of Jesus, and be counted among the saints, who keep the commandments of God and the Faith of Jesus. (Rev. 14:12)

I don’t think you addressed me that question peronally, Ben. Also, I already told you that I can’t use the computer at the shelter like i used to do before. Want to switch places with me for a while? “Don’t judge anyone unless you have walked a mile in his shoes”…

Why that, just because I invited you to join Jesus’ Faith which was Judaism? Considering that you claim Jesus to be your savior, I thought you were ripe enough to follow in his footsteps by joining his ranks. That’s all.

I note that in an earlier post you say there is no place in Judaism for a human God. Then I ask you when the prophecies say that the Messiah wil be called Emmanuel (God with us) how do you interpret that?

Yes, Immanuel means “God with us.” That is, God with the world. The Prophet Isaiah found need to bring that term up in Isaiah 8:8 because of the removal of Israel, or Messiah ben Joseph from existence, but that the world should not panic because God would continue with Mankind due to Judah being confirmed to remain forever in Jerusalem. (Psalm 78:67-70; II Kings 11:36) Therefore, God would continue with Mankind. Not that Judah is God, but that God would not abandon Mankind for the sake of the new Israel from the stock of Judah. (Isa. 48:1; Jer. 31:35-37) That’s how I interpret Immanuel.

I understand and appreciate your answer but it seems that if God is always with us in fact, what is the point of Isaiah speaking of a Messiah who shall be known as “God with us”? I am not trying to disagree with you so much as trying to understand. Thank you for your answer.

**Isaiah does not speak of a Messiah who SHALL be known as “God with us.” Isaiah speaks of a Messiah who means God with us. Read Isaiah 8:8.

Listen Alan, if you believe that the Suffering Servant of Isaiah 53 is the Messiah, read Isaiah 41:8,9; 44:1,2,21; 45:4. Isaiah identifies that Servant as Israel by name, so that you won’t have to waste your time assuming that he was Jesus.**

I get your point although Isaiah 53:9 says “Though he had done no injustice and had spoken no falsehood”. This cannot apply to Israel (Jacob) or to the nation of Israel for it would be untrue of either of them. Therefore one must assume that it refers to someone else. I am using the Tanakh, The Holy Scriptures according to the Hebrew Text as my translation.

Or do you mean to say that the Master of the Universe would mean only to say what the Jews would understand Him to have meant to say and nothing else? What kind of Master of the Universe then would He be? If the Jews can say to Him how to be the Master of the Universe, how can He be truly called the Master of the Universe? Aren’t you trying to restrict your God to certain areas and not to others? If He IS the Master of the Universe, you just can’t tell Him what to do. He will do as pleases Him, won’t He?

Ben, Christianity has existed nearly 2000 years, it’s Judaism a step further, believe it or not! This does not mean that the Christian people are without sins. I am not willing to go steps backwards, even though Judaism has been great indeed.
Also Christians were expelled from synagogues for having stuck to preaching in the name of Jesus of Nazareth. You are indeed against the Christian message itself, which was uttered not only by saint Paul, but by all the Apostles and the deacons and also the disciples… You say that Peter and the other Apostles stayed silent… you don’t believe the 8 first chapters of the Acts of the Apostles, and you don’t want to tell us what your sources are about saint Paul having invented the whole story and having convinced the Apostles and the other disciples of Jesus of Nazareth. You probably made it all up yourself, then?

Bending the Truths of the Gospels and of the rest of the NT to fit your fallacious theories… you don’t care about the commandment against false witnessing. Maybe you don’t even believe there is a God who uttered that commandment and the others found in the Bible!

I am in a non-Catholic section of the Forum. If you cannot refute my views, don’t try to use the above to evade the issue.
(Lapell) And you are required on the Catholic Answers Forums to respect our faith as Catholics and Christians. I don’t see that you are actually doing it, in fact. (Nota bene: The other replies in this one colour are also mine.)

I know enough about the Essenes to deal with preconceived notions about them, which is what I find here. I have said here and I repeat that Jesus never had anything to do with the Essenes.
And here Ben, unlike in many of your other posts, I would tend to agree with you. Jesus indeed didn’t really have to have anything to do with them

**Good! That’s what I am after: To be proved wrong. So far, you haven’t been doing a good job. **Why should you need to be “proved” wrong, Ben? Especially in matters of faith?..

I have been rather very respectful, considering the insults I have experienced here with Catholics. They start well, without being able to hide their missionary attitude in the hope to convert a Jew, then, when they lose hope, they start insulting with words fitting only to hooligans.
With the exception of this poster here at one point. To be fair, though, you have apologized to me. Thank you!
