Hello, friends in Christ. I am responding here because of something that has been going on in a few of the posts here on this subject. There is a member here by the name of “Just 1 hr a wk”. She (I believe it to be a she), began the situation I am addressing with her post #27. She stated “I am having a problem watching someone else - on another forum - act as if there are some non-mortal sins that are not forgiven in the penitential rite of the Mass”. I am the poster to whom she refers here. And her statement is untrue. I have never made such a statement. I did, however, insinuate that there are degrees of sin. I used the example of stealing a dime from a destitute woman vs. stealing a dime from a millionaire. I believe in a Just God. I further stated that the precept of the Church demanded we confess our sins once a year. That was the way I was taught. When I produced the section of the Catechism that said this, someone produced a version, using the word “mortal” as a modifier for sin - and all hell broke lose.
Immediately following her post, someone asked for a link to this other thread. Just 1 hr a wk responded this way - “I want to but I am concerned about it. The thread is over at AOL. One of the posters involved, the one whose comments are disturbing, has made threats about causing trouble for posters.” I had to laugh (out loud, actually) upon reading this. I would welcome any of you to visit the AOL boards. You would quickly see that I have never threatened anyone on the boards. Actually, it is just the opposite. I am one of a few conservative or traditional Catholics on the boards. The majority are liberals or modernists. I would welcome any of you to visit those boards and see exactly what has been going on there. As I said, I have never threatened anyone or reported anyone to AOL for statements made. Quite the opposite has been happening. Most of my friends have been kicked off the boards, simply because they disagree with some of the powers that be. I have yet to be admonished by AOL, even though some have reported some of my postings there. I would guess that Just 1 hr a wk has reported me - all to no avail.
As to the link to the site, I do not know how to get that link to share it with you, but will get someone to show me how to get it and paste it here. I have nothing to hide.
My point in the entire thread over there was to talk about the importance of Confession and the graces achieved through the sacrament.
Someone stated in a comment that it sounded like I was wrong and knew that I was wrong and was afraid of the challenge of anyone of you coming over to join in our discussions. That is untrue and I would sincerely welcome any of you.
I firmly believe that the precept calls for us to confess our sins once per year. I fully realize that only mortal sin must be confessed; but I also believe that continually committing some of these venial sins will only lead to more serious sin.
I am sorry to have to do this, and it was not my intention to make personal attacks on anyone. Yet, I could not let this stand.
I will get the link to the AOL boards ASAP and paste it for anyone that wants to check this out.
Thank you for reading this and I wish you the Holiest Christmas.
