Why get married?

How is this not a trolling post? This person must know at least the tiniest amount of Catholic sexual teaching, in which case this makes no sense.

Decide if you are going to be Catholic or not. If you aren’t, fine, live like a pagan. If you are going to be Catholic, then you already know sex is reserved for marriage. Get married if you want, or not, but you know the rules about sex.

After reading your follow-up post, this answer fits best. I would expect this from someone who just finished high school, not a collage graduate. Your either reading these replies and smiling or your angry because your not getting much support. But like my wise Uncle always said, “your gonna be sorry ya asked…cuz now I’m gonna tell ya”.

However, the more I think about it the more I realize how much I love being single and doing whatever I want.

Really? I’m single and I don’t feel free at all. Frankly the only times I felt close to being free to do what I want only lasts in a span of 4 hours daily and 1.5 days on a weekend. The rest goes to working hard at the marketing grindstone and finding ways to self-improve as an employee.

Heck some of my work mates are already married and even they look like they have more freedom than I do.

And as much as I’m actually pretty content, there are times, during those free moments, that feelings of loneliness make me doubt this ‘freedom’.

With that said, this little exchange from the movie Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows really drives my point:

Sherlock Holmes: Annihilation!
Dr. John Watson: Rebirth.
Sherlock Holmes: Restriction!
Dr. John Watson: Structure.
Sherlock Holmes: Answering to a woman!
Dr. John Watson: Being in a relationship. Having a home, the possibility of a family. Who wants to die alone?
Sherlock Holmes: Right, so you’ll get married tomorrow, settle down with Mary and I’ll… die alone.

Besides, I feel like most Catholics want to get married so they can have sex. My friends tell me that you can just get a gf and have sex with her instead of getting married.

Let’s see… sex with or no strings attached?

Well if your friends like the easy-peasy life filled with no commitment or sense of purpose, that’s fine. I for one long for the challenge.

Also, they say when you are older it doesnt matter, because girls like older guys and there will always be young girls. Thoughts?

As much as I prefer younger girls myself, I’m no big fan of the sleazy middle-aged cad in a suit going for the interns. The only thoughts are that your friends remind me of how shallow my generation is.
