Hi,
After a full day of mental and physical anguish, Jesus gave us His all by dying on the cross on Good Friday. He held nothing back; He is God, yet He gave His all.
The moment of His death is an eternal moment in that it transcends time and transforms all people from the beginning of creation until the Last Day. But it also remains in time as the Eucharist.
We have the opportunity of celebrating His self-donation on our behalf every time we are present at Mass. The bread and wine become that same body that died for us so many years ago. The body separated from the blood demonstrates for us the fact that God loves us enough to become one of us and suffer and die for our benefit. We come to Mass to acknowledge His love for us AND to give Him our own—and then we have the honor of receiving His body and blood into our very bodies in the holiest of unions. It is unthinkable that we could equal this at home on our own.
As EWTN says, this is our Catholic heritage. Let’s live it!
