i read all the time that people go to exposition and pray how does this help more than just praying and some people say they just sit and adore how do you do that and what does it do for you and how can you learn to get help by it isn’t it stronger to receive communion

You can dwell in the physical presence of Christ when you go to adoration, which you cannot do when elsewhere. Many people benefit greatly from that knowledge and receive graces from it.

Physically taking yourself somewhere different to pray & meditate can also help put your mind into a better state for prayer. This is why, even though the Host is not permitted to be kept in a private home, it is an intelligent idea to have a shrine in your house. A designated place where you can go for prayer.

I have a long closet with a sliding door in my apartment that is wide enough for me to sit in, and not more than that. About 2.5 feet wide. At the end of it, I keep a small end table with a crucifix, a statue of Mary, holy water, a few small prayer cards (St Joseph, St Michael, Guardian Angel), and a scented candle with three wicks. I can sneak in there and close the door to do petitions, intercessions, and thanksgiving. Although I can spontaneously pray anywhere, putting myself into that separate environment is good for the mind and body to focus itself. A flame is also advantageous as a focal point during meditation.

[my former materialist self was a little uncomfortable with the idea of setting up a mini spiritual shrine in my apartment, but once I did, I never regretted it. It is peaceful.]

I remember this: “God is the same everywhere, but we aren’t.” That is why shrines/sanctuaries/chapels - as well as the beauty of the natural world - are beneficial for the soul as places for worship or meditation, and sanctuaries and chapels are blessed by a bishop for this purpose.

You might consider doing some spiritual reading on the subject of adoration and meditation if it isn’t clicking for you. St Francis de Sales includes a chapter on meditation in his book “Introduction to the Devout Life”, although as an older text, I wouldn’t classify it as light reading. I’m sure any small book on the subject could help.

I find my time at Adoration to be very very beneficial on several levels. There never is a time when I leave Adoration without feeling much better. It helps me center my life on Christ, rather than the world.

Where else can you get quality one on one time with Our Lord?

Blessings,
Stephie
