Well, Africa does have a lot of troubles doesn’t it, but I think that it’s due more to dry, arid lands in the desert regions and a whole bunch of corrupt leaders…

Agreed. I think that the notion of God specifically and directly punishing or rewarding nations was common in the OT, but that was more reflective of the cultural tradition of Israelites and Judeans attempting to explain socio-political events in theological terms.

Even if you do apply this OT tradition to modern day events, I think you would have to take into account that God never forsake His people- rather, they forsake God’s commandments, suffered the consequences, in the process, those that remained learned their lesson, embraced the covenant again, and returned to favor with God. As far as the NT goes, see MT 5:45.

This understanding of God’s action in human history is not supported in the NT, aside from natural consequences resulting from violations of the Natural Law.

Not completely but much of Africa has rejected the Gospel and chosen the darkness of voodoo and other forms of religion over Christianity.

I thought there are many catholics that are coming to the Faith and a whole bunch of new vocations—men and women.

If that is the case, then why is India not suffering? as well as China? or any of the pagan countries that have turned their backs on God/

And if that is the case, are we not more responsible/…our countries who say we are christian nations and yet how many are really truly christian? and how come there are so many abortions still that is so rampant? how many do truly go to church? how many are okay with same-sex marriage?

We will have to answer to so much more than other paganistic countries…please read Fr corapi’s letter…

And what about New Age that is so popular amongst the North American society? A cult that some had to be exorcised from? You should Moira Noonan’s conversion story…

And then there is Oprah…

It strikes me that if God has forsaken any region it is the West. The United States is a totally depraved society. I look for light from Africa, and see it in Cardinal Arinze, in the good and holy prelates of the Anglican Communion and in the movement of the Spirit that is occurring on that continent. The violence, corruption and brutality that are manifest in Africa are present in America as well, and I believe that we in America have interiorized these. The sins condemned by the prophets and by the Lord Jesus Christ are condemned in Africa as well, but they are treated as virtues here.

North America is not excused. In fact, its punishment is probably worse.

Well if u look into Indian history everything that OT says about the wrath of God has happened here for thousand of years the muslim & mongol hordes just vandalised & looted India, infact it is very interesting history,

Then we had Mahatma Gandhi who advocated Ahimsa (non violence) and followed the word of God (see his teachings you will find the similarities) The British realised this & never laid a hand on him even though he wanted them leave.

Today we have adopted a Constitution which advocates the law of God, (though it is adopted from the Irish & English constitution who in turn were inspired by the bible)
