I’m always wondering what could be possible reasons for him not returning. The world seems so corrupt and violent and things only seem to get worse by the year, it just seems so gloomy sometimes and I just hope things improve or Jesus returns in our life time.

If not, I wonder why and what his reasons would possibly be. I know only he knows but I’d like to hear other thoughts on this too.

Sometimes on some gloomy days it feels like he will never return and we are just hopelessly waiting. I know I shouldn’t let my faith shake like that but sometimes it just seems like there’s no light at the end of the tunnel.

Sometimes it just feels like he won’t come or we’re superstitious to believe that. Then again he did say himself that he will come again.

It simply just isn’t time. At a time we’d least expect it it will be the return. We don’t know when, but it is always good to be prepared like it will be tomarrow.

It took Him several thousands of years to put in His first appearance, didn’t it, even though He was promised to Adam and Eve in the garden. Why do you think He should hurry up about it the second time around then?

Put it this way - every minute that He delays is an extra opportunity for us to put ourselves at rights with Him, so think of it as a blessing that He ISN’T (apparently) in a hurry.

Patience.I personally feel that the world is going to get way,WAY,worse before He comes and that we will suffer personal persecution and various martydoms for our Faith. Can’t you feel the storm building now?Just a second someone’s at the door…

This is a sign that Christ’s coming may in fact be near: the proliferation of so many false prophets claiming to be Christ.

If anyone says to you then, ‘Look, here is the Messiah!’ or, ‘There he is!’ do not believe it.
24
False messiahs and false prophets will arise, and they will perform signs and wonders so great as to deceive, if that were possible, even the elect.
25
Behold, I have told it to you beforehand.
26
So if they say to you, ‘He is in the desert,’ do not go out there; if they say, ‘He is in the inner rooms,’ do not believe it. 15
27
For just as lightning comes from the east and is seen as far as the west, so will the coming of the Son of Man be.

Wherever the corpse is, there the vultures will gather.

agree with you wholeheartedly

Very interesting replies, what if mankind continues to live for another couple thousand years, would that in anyway hurt Christianity in a sense as to “why hasn’t Christ come yet”? What if Christianity dies out after a few thousand years because people get sick of waiting for Christ and virtually everyone loses their faith? Could that ever happen?

What if science and technology transcend to a point where human rationality and scientific discoveries tries to stomp out all religion. I’m already starting to see it today and the number of athiests I’m encountering are growing.

What if humans find a way through medical advances and technology to be almost immortal by defeating disease and aging in the distant future? Would that contradict our faith?

I think as long as the Catholic Church is around, Christianity as a whole is hear to stay.

Jesus himself said that the gates of hell won’t prevail against the Church. I’ll take him at his word 👍

This is interesting. I have a friend who strongly believes in the Rapture. She thinks it will happen at any moment. She gets upset with me when I disagree. I happen to think He has more planned for us. Our world is going through some rough times right now, but are they any worse then the Middle ages? What about the plagues then? I think the signs people see are no different then they have been in any generation.
I will cherish my time here, and look forward to my time in Heaven. I just happen to think I will also be able to see my children grow up and have children of their own. 👍

In Holy Scripture there were those who felt His return was imminent-St Paul was one I believe.2000 years is nothing.Don’t fret Jesus will return for each one of us at the INSTANT of our death.🙂

A dear friend is 3 months along in their pregnancy, one they’ve anticipated for quite some time.

Would you have Jesus return before their baby was born?

Perhaps their child will accomplish wonderful things, maybe even be the next Beethoven or Mozart. God alone knows.

But perhaps that’s why He abides. There are more of us yet to be born.

That is what I’ve always thought. God wants a big family.

**the LORD’S messenger called to Abraham from heaven and said: "I swear by myself, declares the LORD, that because you acted as you did in not withholding from me your beloved son, I will bless you abundantly and make your descendants as countless as the stars of the sky and the sands of the seashore; your descendants shall take possession of the gates of their enemies, and in your descendants all the nations of the earth shall find blessing–all this because you obeyed my command.’’ (Gen 22:15-18)

For this reason, it depends on faith, so that it may be a gift, and the promise may be guaranteed to all his descendants, not to those who only adhere to the law but to those who follow the faith of Abraham, who is the father of all of us (Rom 4:16)**

I heard the number of those who had been marked with the seal, one hundred and forty-four thousand marked from every tribe of the Israelites . . .After this I had a vision of a great multitude, which no one could count, from every nation, race, people, and tongue. They stood before the throne and before the Lamb, wearing white robes and holding palm branches in their hands. (Rev 7:4, 9)

Indeed, it would be selfish for us to so desire an end to earthly tribulation that we deny those yet to be born their opportunity to live and do God’s will here on Earth.

Maybe this sounds far out to some…
I believe the Kingdom of God is already here and just like many failed to see Jesus as Lord when He came to be born in a stable, many fail to see the Kingdom of God here in our midst today. It is important that we are as watchful as Zacchaeus in the sycamore tree. Christ asks to come into our hearts everyday.

Not far out at all–the Kingdom of God is the Church.

Christ is physically present in the Eucharist.

I presume when the OP referenced Christ’s return, it did so eschatologically. Clearly the end times have not arrived.

We are at the last supper, calvary and present at the heavenly feast simultaneously at every mass.

The End Times have three main themes. the Rapture is one. Pre-trib.
When Jesus comes back for his church it will happen with a loud command. The dead in Christ will rise first. See 1Thess.4 13-18 All eyes will see him coming in the clouds.

God bless,

He hasn’t come yet because too many people are expecting him to come very soon… 😃 The latest Y2K-type scare (has it been 9 years already?) is 12-21-2012 (or for Europeans, 21-12-2012). Some people who I would have never guessed they would believe in the end of time coming at the end of the Mayan calender gets pretty worked up with me when I don’t subscribe to that particular belief. I just camly try to remind them that he will come like a thief in the night and we won’t know the time when he’ll come. I tell them if they keep expecting it to happen, it won’t ever happen.

God Bless!
