Why hasn't Sanjaya been booted off of American Idol yet?

I think he’s adorable and I hope he wins. He would be a great American idol. The others are great singers and they will have careers in the business, but this contest is not totally a singing contest, it’s an idol contest. Sanjaya has captured a lot of hearts, even though he can’t touch Melinda or Lakisha as a singer.

Hey, I know Sanjaya is not a great singer, but he’s a decent singer. And being an idol is not necessarily about having talent, it’s about attracting a galaxy of people into your universe.

There’s more to being an idol than just singing well. I know a lot of people who sing great, but they aren’t even on American Idol, and if they were, they wouldn’t make it past the screeners because of personality.

Sanjaya has something the others don’t have–personality.

I honestly would like to see Melinda Doolittle win, as she is the best singer on the show, but to be honest, many, many African American women sing just as well, so she isn’t exactly unique. Sanjaya is unique.
 
I don’t find Sanjaya entertaining or even the least bit talented. It hurts my teeth to see him. I think he’s just horrible. :cool:

I think (hope) it will come down to LaKisha, Malinda, and Jordan. In no particular order. They truly are the most talented in the bunch, and I think they will do very well no matter if they win or not. But it really should come down to these three.

these kids are all good singers imo. i think that the judges play their favorites and it trickles down to the american viewer. i think the show needs new judges to shake things up and make for a better show in the long run.
 
He actually wasn’t bad tonight. In fact, I’m beginning to realize that he was put in the top 24 for a reason and maybe he just took a long time to get over the nerves and needs to find the appropiate songs and types of music to sing. I still think he should get the boot but he at least isn’t a total joke anymore. I’d be more concerned with Haley being able to stay on the show simply because she dresses imodestly and gets the guys vote. Even I’m tempted to vote for her just to see how she’ll dress and act next week in her song. It looks like Lakisha might get the boot this week though based on dialidiol.com’s predictions. Surprising but true though I never cared for her.
 
I heard a panel of people from Hollywood, various critics, etc., predict that Jordan would win. They said she’s fresh and contemporary.

They said that Melinda and Lakisha would cancel each other’s votes.

I certainly like Blake and wouldn’t mind seeing him win. I also like Melinda.

But I still like Sanjaya! My husband saw/heard him for the first time last night, and loved him! He may not be the best singer, but he’s definitely a good “idol.” He got a mention on Jay Leno last night. He’s definitely built up some excitement among AI fans.
 
Well, after last night, I have to admit that Sanjaya really can’t sing country, or at least, can’t sing Bonnie Riatt. Ugh. Very bad choice of song, and very poorly sung.

I think that might have been the end of him. Others didn’t do so well either, like Blake and Chris. But I think people will forgive Blake for not being good at crooning country because he’s so good at everything else. As for Chris, well, I don’t care for him and wouldn’t mind seeing him go.

But I think Sanjaya might have lost his following after last night. It was just so awful.

There are websites that promote voting the worst to stay. Also some shock jock radio stations are telling their listeners to call in for the Sanjaya to stay. I am not sure how all of this can affect the total outcome though.

Kidding! He’s a nice kiddo. I am glad he is gone, but why the heck was LaKisha in the bottom two!!!??
 
I don’t know about anyone else…but this round of contestants…I don’t know? They just lack that sparkle…that ‘star quality.’ There are some pretty good singers, but there’s no one person I can say…ok, that is the next American Idol. I think I’m done watching after this season. :o
 
My first thought when they announced he was going home was, “At last!” And then… when I saw he was crying… I felt so badly for him. He’s just a kid.

I say well done Sanjaya. :clapping: He didn’t deserve all the nasty stuff that was said about him. It’s not his fault people were voting for him just to screw up the show. I think he’s a sweet soul. I hope all goes well for him.

My prediction for the final: Dolittle vs. Jordan. Dolittle wins.

I would agree with you here.

As to why LaKisha was in the bottom two, I think it is partly that after a great start on her song she tried to totally overpower it and ended up ruining the performance. I think the other part is that momentum is working against her. While Melinda consistently blows it out of the park every week, and Jordan has constantly been improving, LaKisha has been good, but not great and people are giving up on her. Since we’re getting down to where you have to cast your votes for your favorite to make sure there isn’t an accidental early exit, a la Chris Daughtry last year, LaKisha is getting left out in the cold.

I agree with CarolMarie that it will be Jordan and Melinda in the final–after being convinced early on that it would be LaKisha–but I don’t have a clue which one will pull it out. I’ll probably go down to which one has the best performance that night as I really like both of them.
 
I hope this doesn’t sound racist. A lot of kids say that Lakisha sounds “ghetto.” They want someone who is not “ghetto” to win, because there are already so many “ghetto” singers out there.

My thoughts exactly, carolmarie. I was actually tearing up a little when he started crying. He really is just a kid, and it was probably very difficult for him to get up there week after week with all the criticism. He isn’t an “American Idol”, but he seems to be a nice kid. (All these thoughts, of course, after I whooped and hollered that he was finally booted off!:o)

I also agree it will be Melinda and Jordin. Although I like Melinda better, I’m going to predict Jordin as the winner.
