Why haven't you carefully researched the Catholic Faith?

What makes you think I haven’t? None of your poll options apply to me.

I personally believe study is a lifelong endeavor.

Has been for me.

Which explains the presence of all the multitudinous thousands of books around here.

I don’t want to deal with the responsibility. I fear growing in my faith, having my faults exposed. I don’t want to suffer. I wish I could enjoy my sexuality.

The best way to enjoy it is by living a true life centered on God! Do not fear! Freedom is what awaits!

I find it interesting that the Catholics seem to admit that they haven’t, or perhaps could not, thoroughly research the Catholic Church, but that those who are not Catholic want to say they have.

Speaking as someone who has studied and has been on the journey home for quite a few years now, I must tell you that Truth is but one part of the equation!

I’d be converting without my family. Not a big deal. My husband is fine with that. However, I have not found a parish or spiritual advisor I am comfortable with. If I can’t find a community, I’m very unlikely to convert no matter how much Truth I discover through study.

I agree…“i also don’t believe anybody without Catholicism can be truly happy,” is truly subjective…i think what the poster means is “i could not be truly happy”, because how can the happiness, or lack thereof, be known by someone else?

I have quite a collection myself and it is ever expanding. Sometimes I think I need to get one of those e-readers or else I’ll have to buy a larger home! 😂

I meant what I said, and of course it is subjective. I can’t know, but still hold beliefs about happiness in general. Since I believe God created us and established the Church for us, I don’t believe anyone can be happy without following Church doctrine. I know I wouldn’t be truly happy without Catholicism now that I truly understand Catholicism. I also believe others can’t be truly happy without it, whether they realize it or not. God designed us, so to be happiest we need to listen to Him.

It is a peculiar quirk of mine, having actively collected books for around 62 years and worked in several areas of retail book selling, that when the non-paper form of reading came along (ebooks and such), I scorned them and will not have any truck with them.

The downside to that is the space that 30,000+ real books require. But I manage.

I was trained as an historian. I really love the feel and smell of real books. I’ve only used ebooks when required. I’m now a teacher. Some of our books are only available in ebook format. Sad but true.

I will admit that sniffing new books possibly rate a venial level of lust.
As in, the smell does affect me but I’m not about to do anything about it.

Sad indeed.

The olfactory and tactile allure of books, new and old, is a part of the addiction. But old, in particular. Which is why I enjoyed my years in the collectible and out of print side of books…

Then, of course, there are the contents.

I also believe others can’t be truly happy without it, whether they realize it or not.
Again, subjective and not objective…for everyone you perceive to not be happy because they are not in communion with the Church, I would submit I can find one who is truly happy…Dali Lama is an example…not meaning to be argumentative, just saying.
