Often the parents are able to use library resources for free. There are online programs for subjects parents aren’t comfortable teaching. Some parents switch out subjects with each other. I teach math to a neighbor’s kids and in turn she teaches music to mine. I do not have a college degree, but that is because I bypassed getting one for motherhood instead. I’m not stupid, but even if I were that would be no one’s business. God trusted me to educate my children and it’s no one else’s business how well I do that. If my kids find full time employment on earth and make it to heaven after that, I’ve done my job. Not all kids are college bound. Homeschooling allows kids to follow their career paths from an earlier age which may help both the kids heading to college and the ones that are seeking a trade. There are an awful lot of traditionally educated college graduates that can’t get jobs, but somehow a homeschooling parent is looked at as bad if their child is the same way.
