HI everyone!
I just wanted to take the time to explain to you all who I am and why I am here. First of all, I am non-denominational… 😃 .
I came to this forum because I was invited to do so by one of your participants. I am glad that I did because I have may questions about the Catholic faith and its traditions.
As I said I am here to ask questions. I am not here to start any type of heated debats about my beliefs or yours. I do not have any desire to fight over these things, I am just curious 😃 .
Thanks to all of you that have already taken the time to answer some of my questions. Your answers were and are much appreciated. 👍

Let me just say that our western civilization that we have is thanks to the Catholic Church. The Bible that we and all protestant have is thanks to the Catholic Church. Most of the inventors in the past were Catholic.
The following list is just a few things created by the Catholic Church:
  1. The Universities
  2. The Astronomy
  3. Our Current Calendar
  4. Arts
  5. The Banking System (By the Night Templars)
  6. Red Cross
  7. Agriculture
  8. Medicine
  9. Teology
  10. Others (There is a Book that has them all)
    Good luck…

Welcome. I hope your visits here are received warmly and charitably.

When non-Catholics ask Catholics questions about the faith it becomes a learning opportunity for all of us so we look forward to hearing from you!

Warrior,

Welcome! I hope you find your time spent here to be both informative and thought-provoking.

I am very interested in the whole non-denom movement, and the role it seems to be playing in bringing people to some form of sprituality and connection with God.

What do you see as the biggest strengths of the non-denominational churches? And, what do you see as their biggest weaknesses?

Looking forward to hearing more from you…

Your brother in Christ,
JP Augustine

I saw a great bumper sticker the other day, it read:

“Catholicism: The original non-denominational Church”

Anyway, welcome to the forum. 🙂

arieh…

I love that bumper sticker! Wish I could order one for myself… 😃

Warrior, you’ll find that this is probably the most non-confrontational religion board out there. Ask whatever you want; hold nothing back. You’ll find that there’s no question someone here can not answer.

Also, we don’t mind some healthy debate. Just remember - ask, don’t attack. Welcome!

hey w4t!

Welcome. What non-denominational type church are you with? Is it non- denominational as in it doesn’t fall under any other Church or Ecclesial structure for leadership, like an Independent Church? Or it is non- denominational as in any denominational people are welcome to come on it and join in worship but there is a structure outside the local congregation?

My Mother-in-law goes to a non- denominational church that used to be Baptist. When I pressed her on it she found out that they are really a Baptist church that dropped the Baptist name on their sign and replaced it with non- denominational.

Some non- denominational are into the demonstrative aspects of the Holy Spirit and others are not. Where does your particular community stand on that?

I hope this doesn’t come across like a glaring white lamp being shone into your face with a grumpy guy demanding to know where you were on between 8pm and midnight on the September 12th or anything.

Hi Warrior4Truth,
Welcome. I’m glad you are here. 👋

There are so many misconceptions about the Catholic Church… good for you for not just believing everything you hear but instead wanting to find out straight from the source. I wish more people had your attitude!

God Bless,
CM

That’s great! Speaking of bumper stickers, I saw one about a month ago and it said, “I may be fat but you’re ugly and I can lose weight”. I thought that was hilarious! 😃

Welcome to the forums Warrior!

You are welcome here, there are many on this board who have previously went to non-denominational churches, so discussion should be easy.

As someone else said feel free to hold nothing back and ask away in your questions, just ask and we will be happy to answer.

Sometimes people come here just to attack Catholics so don’t be surprised if once in a while some might get defensive, we are human and not all of us are perfect, yet…

I like to read and recommend books, I find most non-catholics do not read Catholic books. There is nothing to be afraid of, and Catholic books will give you a better insight into what we really believe. Most non-catholics and former catholics have some strange ideas of what Catholics really believe.

God Bless

Which non-denominational church do you go to?

There are several based around who founded them, I had attended Calvary Chapel at one time and am familiar with Vineyard which broke off of Calvary Chapel over differences in belief.

Are you a part of one of those?

God Bless

Lol. No it does not feel that way at all.
THe church that I am a member of is the kind of church were many denominations are. We have members from Methodist backgrounds, Baptist, Protestant, and just about any other kind you can think of. We have a Slogan on our doors right before you walk in that says " My Father’s House. Where Jesus is Lord and all are Welcome.

To be honest with you Augustine I am not sure what the strength and weaknesses of non-denom churches are. I have not really thought about it, but I am glad that you asked it because it gives me something to think about. I will try to give you an answer as soon as I can. 😃
Yours in Christ

I understand about some people here might being defensive, but thank for telling me in advance about it. Also I love to read, and I would be interseted in Catholic books if you have any suggestions. 😃

It is my deepest belief that anyone who genuinely and honestly read what happened to Christianity in the years after Our Lord’s death; followed the tracks of the spread of Christianity in its first 300 years; read the accounts of the early Church Fathers (e.g. Ireneaus of Lyon) openly without any bias toward preconceived theology could not help but come to the conclusion that we Catholics are what we say we are. My ancestors and parents passed my Catholic faith down to me but I don’t need my faith to argue historic and anthropological reality. I can be totally secular in defending my religion. I believe that that is something to reflect upon. I don’t need to rely upon scripture (save where it occurs in its first instance). I can show you historically authenticated account upon account from many different countries across the Roman Empire. Furthermore, I can continue those accounts across the Dark Ages through many different “barbarian” cultures. All without using scripture…simply the historical record. So, my friend, read history…don’t worry about theology or scripture.

W4t I am sure you are a great person who loves God and tries to do everything in your power to serve God. But there is something I have to tell you and everyone reading this, especially the Catholics who should know better.

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS “NON DENOMINATIONAL” period.

You are either Catholic, which you aren’t, Orthodox which I don’t think you are either or Protestant, that is all that there is.

If you believe that you have to go by the bible and nothing else that is a Protestant teaching. If you believe that the “Lord’s Supper” is strictly symbolic and nothing else that is Protestant and not “non denominational” teaching. If you believe that you have “got saved” and your baptism is merely a “water baptism” a term used nowhere in the bible or tradition and has nothing to do with the forgiveness of your sins, you are a Protestant and not just a “Christian” and nothing else.

There is nothing necesarily wrong with what you beleive at all, but it is Protestant and not “just Christian”, and not “non Denominational” what you beleive is very much sectarian.

Hi, Warrior! Welcome to the Forums! I’m a cradle-Catholic myself, but I have great love and respect for those who are in the non-denominational churches. A particular church in our area brought many of my karaoke friends back into a faith with Jesus Christ, and I cannot be anything but happy for them! 👍
