Why I am not a Christian?

8- salvation either wipes out all sins, or it does not.
If the first case is true, then it leads to what we say that Christianity encourages people to do whatever they please.
Not true at all! If one is free from obligation to sin, and has the very Spirit of God in him, though he may not in fullness be sanctified, he certainly will act and live in a manner different from the unrighteous … If one is allowing the Spirit to work, sin will be stamped out. Here, in Romans 2, Paul says, “Some even slander us by claiming that we say, ‘The more we sin, the better it is!’ Those who say such things deserve to be condemned,” and in chapter 6, “Should we keep on sinning so that God can show us more and more of his wonderful grace? Of course not! Since we have died to sin, how can we continue to live in it?”
  1. Christians worship more than one God, ie Father, Son, Holy Spirit. Christians say that it is only one God, however even their most knowledgeable priests cannot completely explain the trinity.
No one can explain God … If I had an explainable god, I’d be worried … We do not worship three gods; we worship One—Yahweh, the Father of our Lord Yeshua, who in us lives, through his Spirit! Confused? Here, check this out. This is an excellent elaboration on the Trinity, though imperfect: godandscience.org/apologetics/xdimgod.php.
  1. Christians disregard the laws of the Old Testament, and have made it legal for themselves to do sinful acts such as eating pork, drinking alcohol, and not circumcising their sons.
We do not disregard them; we acknowledge some, such as clean and unclean foods, as having served their purpose. Alcohol consumption is NEVER, even in the Old Covenant, prohibited; drunkenness is. I apologize for the hypocrisy of my family for those times when they have overdosed on alcohol in violation of the Word. And, lastly, circumcision is only an outward sign of an inward reality—a changed heart. Circumcision is fine, but no longer an obligation, especially considering Paul, who, in Colossians, refers to baptism as the new circumcision. (I myself was circumcised, however, and so were many of my friends; it simply is no longer necessity.) As for the other aspects of the law, are you aware of the New Covenant promise in Jeremiah? God says he will write his laws in our hearts … This is the new, perfect Way, which leads to life! This is our being compelled to do the Will of God, not by obligatory commands and statutes, but because of his Spirit within us, which acts through the submissive child of God.
  1. Christians depict images of holy figures such as Jesus, Mary, saints, and other prophets and use those images to direct their worship. I regard this as idolatry, and also as disregarding the second of the ten commandments:
Our church does not do this. This is mainly Catholic and Eastern Orthodox tradition, and we abhor it, as well. However, mind you, it is not ALWAYS idolatrous … One may use these things to focus on God, rather than on the objects themselves, in the same way contemplation on creation itself can move our eyes not towards nature, but towards the Creator.
  1. Most Christians insult other religions/religious leaders such as Muslims. This tells me that they have very little tolerance and believe that they have a monopoly on truth; therefore they are unwilling to consider any other religions’ beliefs.
I am reading the Qur’an, and though first and foremost am planning on memorizing the Scriptures and learning their languages, I also plan to take up Arabic. I have a Moslem friend; we have known each other since kindergarten. I have only been encouraged to study the Islamic religion. Be skeptical of judges and insulters, but never totally rule them out; their actions may not to you clearly reflect their intent.
  1. Most of the Christians practices in Church and in their homes were invented after the time of Jesus. Almost everything Christians due whether it is standing in church singing songs to hanging crosses on their necks is an innovation.
Crucifix necklaces are a way of proclaiming the Faith. Singing songs of praise and teaching the Word are certainly not modern innovations. We continue to “worship in spirit and truth,” despite the fact we do so in the modern era.

The world may change, but God, Yeshua my Messiah, does not. He is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow, his mercies new each morning. And despite many flaws within the individual members of the Church, we must remember, he is a furious Lover of the imperfect and the sinful and his grace is enough. Always.

Thanks for your comment! And honesty!

Shalom!

By what criteria do you judge whether a prophet is truely from God or not?
Hi
The criteria of a true ProphetMessenger of GodAllahYHWH are almost the same an in the OTBible. Could you please mention the same from the OTBible?
Thanks

Hi again paarsurrey,

In a different thread that you created, True or false faith/denomination/religion, I was the first to respond (see Post # 2 in that thread) and I mentioned Prophecy.

Once again, I am referring you to Prophecy; That is our criteria of a true Prophet.

But I don’t think you read it then, and you’ll probably won’t read it now. Why am I wasting my time? :banghead:

Please tell me; Do you understand Prophecy?

This is why I will never be a Muslim.
  1. The Koran was written by a man and is filled with errors and contradictions.
  2. The Prophet was a sexual pervert and pedophile and not a holy person in any form or fashion.
  3. Muslims treat women like so much chattel, to be used and abused and then discarded.
  4. Muslim men routinely kill their women for alleged offenses against their religion and their religious leaders not only condone such acts but actively encourage them.
  5. While Christians evangelize with the love and forgiveness of Christ, Muslims use the sword, bomb, gun, knife, etc.
  6. Muslim-run theocracies resemble the 6th century more than the 21st century. They are opposed to knowledge because it would threaten their power.
  7. Muslims worship idols in direct contravention to the Old Testament. Five times a day they get down on their knees and worship a city no less.
  8. Muslims worship the Koran, which is just a book written by a man, and a sexual pervert no less.
I could go on and on but it gets a bit tedious. Islam denies the divinity of Christ who said that he who denies me will not be recognized by the father. Trying to use reason and logic against irrational, ridiculous points is a monumental waste of apologetic time.

Why I will never be a muslim…
  1. I dyed my hair brown today from blonde and i really like it, I would be wasting my money if i couldnt show my hair in public
  2. I have a bad back, and praying like that 5 times a day would leave me with really high physio bills…
  3. I live in a hot climate, so covering up is not good for me.
  4. Only know a few words in arabic, and they arent very nice words…
  5. When and if i ever get married, i want to be in the same room with the man im marrying, not have his mates come down and offer $$$ or presents as a bribe so i will say yes…
  6. I believe Jesus is the son of God, and not a mere prophet
(this should be number 1 on my list really)
  7. I look funny wearing a scarf over my head, doesnt suit me.
One reason i would become muslim…

The baggy clothes hide my thighs… 😊

Here’s a question for lightofeyes and paarsurrey: did it ever occur to either of you that Islam’s understanding of Christianity was based on a combination of Gnostic and Nestorian doctrines? Since both Gnosticism and Nestorianism were condemned by Orthodox Catholic Christianity, what you have displayed is a faulty understanding of Catholic beliefs. Please, please, please bear that in mind the next time you try to extol Islam at the expense of Catholicism.

Hi
Let us first understand what is a ProphetMessenger, ChosenOne of GodAllahYHWH from the OTBible, then we would be able to understand as to what is a prophecy. Please define from OTBible, I am listening.

One who is given a message by God to share with the people of Israel.

If Mohammed was a prophet of God, did God perform any miracles through him?

Jesus performed many miracles backing up his claims as did OT prophets. What seperates Mohammed from Joseph Smith or any other person in history who claims to have talked to God or to be God’s messenger and convinced others of their claims?

True miracles are evidence of divine favor and I don’t see any other religion claiming miracles let alone having tens of thousands of people witnessing any such as when the sun danced at Fatima.

Hello paarsurrey,

Ok, let’s start with Isaiah; He lived in a time approximately 1000 years prior to Jesus. We believe he was a prophet because he gave us an accurate description of the pain Jesus felt at His Crucifixion. Whats even more fascinating is that crucifixion wasn’t even invented at the time of Isaiah. So cleary, God gave Isaiah a “vision” of the future.

Once again, for more information of prophecy, visit the following link:

Have you visited that link above?

You really didn’t answer the question I asked. Again, by what specific criteria does Islam judge whether someone is a true prophet or not? If you would like I can certainly show you where Jesus fulfilled the Old Testament prophesies? And where Jesus not only claims to be a prophet but moreover God in the flesh; that goes much beyond Mohammed, since he just claimed to be a prophet.

No I dont agree Christian women should be more conservative, especially in my country of Australia. We are a beach culture in many ways, there is no way im going to start wearing a burkini to the beach…
I don’t recall every suggesting you wear a burka, however, women should be more modest in their attire, wouldn’t you agree? I grew up in a beach culture in California (Santa Barbara) and to say that we all should just wear what we want all of the time isn’t exactly the proper thing to do.
If men cant control their urges, its not my problem.
If they want to give into the sin of lust, whose fault is that? Its not mine…
I’m sorry, but you can’t be more wrong. Please read the Catholic Catechism (section 2521-2525) that I pasted below. Mt 5:27-28 talks about lust, which is a serious issue with Jesus Christ and if you aren’t dressing properly then you are part of the problem and are most certainly culpable for it being a problem according to God, who asked Cain in Genesis…where is Able? Cain said…Am I my brothers keeper? Well, yes he was as are we.
Im happy to wear what I do and have the freedom of wearing what i can. If i wanted to live in a more conservative society to tell me what i should wear id move to iran.
Uh…I’d beg to differ that you have the “freedom” of wearing what you want. Perhaps within society, but before God we are to seek modesty. It isn’t my position to “tell” you what you should nor shouldn’t wear, I would suspect you know what is and isn’t modest. That you are criticizing Muslims for being modest which goes against Catholic Christian teaching on modesty and temperance is wrong. We should correct their theology that’s the issue. But don’t act as though Muslims are somehow wrong because they are more modest than we. We should be dressing more modestly as a society.

2521 Purity requires modesty, an integral part of temperance. Modesty protects the intimate center of the person. It means refusing to unveil what should remain hidden. It is ordered to chastity to whose sensitivity it bears witness. It guides how one looks at others and behaves toward them in conformity with the dignity of persons and their solidarity.
2522 Modesty protects the mystery of persons and their love. It encourages patience and moderation in loving relationships; it requires that the conditions for the definitive giving and commitment of man and woman to one another be fulfilled. Modesty is decency. It inspires one’s choice of clothing. It keeps silence or reserve where there is evident risk of unhealthy curiosity. It is discreet.
2523 There is a modesty of the feelings as well as of the body. It protests, for example, against the voyeuristic explorations of the human body in certain advertisements, or against the solicitations of certain media that go too far in the exhibition of intimate things. Modesty inspires a way of life which makes it possible to resist the allurements of fashion and the pressures of prevailing ideologies.
2524 The forms taken by modesty vary from one culture to another. Everywhere, however, modesty exists as an intuition of the spiritual dignity proper to man. It is born with the awakening consciousness of being a subject. Teaching modesty to children and adolescents means awakening in them respect for the human person. 2525 Christian purity requires a purification of the social climate. It requires of the communications media that their presentations show concern for respect and restraint. Purity of heart brings freedom from widespread eroticism and avoids entertainment inclined to voyeurism and illusion.
And yes, I do dress conservatively when I attend mass, as most people do.
Great to hear that because here in the US there are way to many women who go to Mass who don’t! 🙂

If men cant control their urges, its not my problem.
If they want to give into the sin of lust, whose fault is that? Its not mine…
she is right, that is very much against christian teaching. i hope you are open to learning why…
Im happy to wear what I do and have the freedom of wearing what i can. If i wanted to live in a more conservative society to tell me what i should wear id move to iran.
funny, my friends said the same thing to me when i was blogging about modest dress, “move to the east!” they said. it’s no coincidence that the strongest parishes with the strongest family values and devout catholic families are those that are on the traditional side. they dress modestly with dresses and veils, and i find that 100x more beautiful than our western style of immodest dress. it first makes you look at their eyes and face, followed by the person inside, instead of their figure like the media has trained us to do and think it’s ok.

again we pray you someday see the humility in the teachings of Christ, which span every part of our lives, including dress.

A couple of years ago I was pretty nonreligious but was still looking for answers. I happened to be lucky enought to be able to go live in a Muslim country and to be able to study Islam under some pretty good teachers. I have respect for Muslims as a whole, but after reading the Qu 'ran and seeing that actual practice of their religion, I could never join. I think people here have given alot of good responses to the OPs points, so I won’t because most of them are way smarter than me. But there are a couple of points that I would like to make:
  1. Islam is not a religion of peace. Don’t believe me just read any of their books. The Qu’ran is filled with violence. Even the alot of the hadiths are filled with violence. Sorry I can’t pull actual sayings from the Qu’ran but I’m at work and don’t have it here with me. But randomly open up to any page and you’ve got a good chance to find a verse that approves violence against others.
  2. Islam is religion of fear. Just last year in Pakistan, a Muslim man converted to Christianity. They threatened him and anyone else who converts with death. Islam uses fear to make its followers submit. Christanity does not threaten its members who convert to another religion.
  3. Islam refuses to acknowledge a lot of known science. Last year I taught at a Muslim school. We were not allowed to teach any biology to our students because either a) it wasn’t in the Qu’ran or 2) it contradicted what was in the Qu’ran. Now I don’t think that science has the answer to everything but I do believe that to be well round and educated adults students need to learn some basic science like ohh…where babies come from, the solar system, some physical science, chemistry, etc.
  4. One of my students last year was raped by her uncle. Instead of him being punished she was stoned to death for tempting him by not wearing an abaya (sp?), even though she had a floor length skirt, a long sleeve, crew neck, and loose shirt on, and a hijab. . I totally agree that western women espicially need to cover up a little more, but rape is never the women’s fault. The uncle got absolutely no punishment, because according to the local iman he did nothing wrong. No one here can convince me that Islam is the true enlightened religion when they allow and encourage these types of horrors.
I have meet a lot of nice Muslims, and as a whole I respect them. In any religion, including Christianity you will always have a few bad people who claim to be followers but completely violate the principles of the religion. However, after living and visiting many predominately Muslim countries, I can honestly say its not just a few bad apples doing these things.

Nobody is perfect. But the more I read the responses on this thread and others by Muslim posters the more it strikes me as hypocritical their statement about their religion in comparison with Christianity. A lot of the bad things, if not all, that Christians have done are in direct violation of what Jesus told us to do. A lot of the bad things, if not all, that Muslims have done are permitted and encouraged by the Prophet Mohammed in the Qu’ran.

Again, modesty is what many Christian women need to practice more often, wouldn’t you say? And some men too! I live in a hot climate also and yet that doesn’t justify some people to not cover themselves, in Mt 5:27-28 Jesus said if a man looks upon a woman with lust he has already commited adultery with her in his heart, and for commited Christian men, we would appreciate women (most especially Christian women) to cover themselves more often so that we aren’t tempted to do what Jesus says we shouldn’t do.
No I dont agree Christian women should be more conservative, especially in my country of Australia. We are a beach culture in many ways, there is no way im going to start wearing a burkini to the beach…{snip}…
BURKINI…!!

…a whole new fashion market! Wow…!

Dolphin,… time for you to make a million $$ with that terrific idea.

Can I get a “consultant” fee for prompting you…!? Please please,… just, say, 1% in perpetuity…?

What’cha think? 🙂
