Why I Could No Longer Be A Catholic

Did you read my response after this? It appears that you did not. I said that I know many Lutherans and we have had many discussions about this. They believe that the Eucharist is a “symbol”.**
 
I would tell the “friend” to look to the examples set for us by the apostles. Did they quit the Church and run away to the pagans because it got a little tough, or did they get fed to the lions, crucified, or beheaded? How low our convictions are these days! How in need of fortitude and courage!

Well said. This what I think also. People come and go but the Church will prevail.

The author seems to be starting out with the premise that one can be pro-choice and Catholic at the same time. He fails to see that his “pro-choice Catholic friends” are already no longer Catholics (other than in the sense that they were baptized). It’s not a question of some leaving and some staying in response to the latest scandals. They all left a long time ago.

I don’t know whether it’s higher or lower, depends on how you gather your statistics, but I wouldn’t be surprised if you find them in all walks of life, married men, single men, family men, hetersexual men, etc. The big problem though in the Church is credibility and integrity. How much did they actually coverup all those years? I mean, we now have a Pope who was supposed to have been tight-fisted all those years; now what are we supposed to think of him?

I also will be Catholic until I die. It seems that only those that are thoroughly grounded in the faith will make that statement ( I notice that converts and reverts all have a very strong faith, more than the majority of “Cradle Catholics” ). It’s a sad thing that these “Catholics” will abandon the Church at the first sign of trouble or because the Church teaches contrary to what they want. I know of many that have left the Church because of the Church’s stance on abortion, euthanasia, and gay marriage. I guess the Gospel and Jesus’ words of eternal life carries no weight with them.

It really saddens me to read this!!! I don’t know what the truth is…it is always distorted and by so many sides. I do know that I have made mistakes when trying to do the right thing. What are we supposed to think of our Pope? We are supposed to think of him as having a very human side and that he is trying to do the right thing. He may have made mistakes and he may have done nothing wrong. I will pray for him though as well as all the others that have truly been hurt by all of this. I will also pray for all of those in all walks of life that have injured our children in this same way. Satan is accomplishing his goal when he pits us against the Pope. Hopefully, we can all be stronger than that.

In a way I blame the heirchy for not insisting on a better grounding in the Catholic faith similar to that found in many Protestant denominations.

When I taught the children in CCD I was admonished for using scripture to explain Church teaching. I should follow what the other teachers did and make a game out of teaching in CCD, “How else are they going to learn?”. This stunned me. Hiow can you make a game out of Jesus’ and the Apostles teachings? I think that this point is where most Catholics start and end their instructions. The majority of Catholics really know nothing of their “faith” and follow thru like robots.

One reason I am Catholic(and obedient and in union with the Pope) is because I dont want to go to hell.

You know what is said about “summer soldiers and sunshine patriots”, we also have “summer Catholics and sunshine Catholics”. They will cut and run as soon as the going gets tough or the teaching gets hard or a sacrifice has to be made. They have already received their reward. The world hates the Church because the Church dares to tell them NO! They are like spoiled children who scream and kick their feet because someone has told them NO! These scandals have given these sunshine “Catholics” and the Catholic-haters of the world an excuse to say “see, we were right all along, your Church is corrupt and so now we can do whatever we please.” Under the guidance of the Holy Ghost and our Holy Father, the Catholic Church will continue to be the presence of Jesus Christ on this earth long after her detractors have become dust. Her enemies are dust and yet She continues. Praise God. God bless our Holy Father and the true priests and religious who labor on for us, undaunted by scandal and adversity. Pray for them. And may confusion come upon our enemies.
 
Why I am still in the Catholic Church: Truth, The Holy Eucharist, Every Word of The Mass, The Bible, Catholic Theologians, (Scott Haun) Reconciliation, the Rosary, Our Lady of Fatima. EWTN, Grace, Sacraments, Hope, The Holy Trinity, Purgatory and so many lost souls. Sin is in the world and in the church. We are all sinners and need forgiveness. Our church and our world need prayers and sacrificial actions and repentance. I am deeply hurt by the newest revelations and accusations but I also know that the media is not the place to get my information. Discern Discern. Discern. I have never put my faith in humans and in the social -political ( human) part of our church. My faith as always been in Christ’s Words and his Life. I truly believe Christ founded our church and the gates of hell will not prevail against it. Susan

I am a recent Convert…only 2 weeks old along with my oldest daughter who is only 9. and before we were officially catholic I took my daughters to mass EVERY sunday and holy day of obligation. i taught them about their new faith,(in fact we are always still learning) i taught them how to pray the rosary (we pray the rosary together most saturdays together), told them stories about the saints, and mary. taught them new prayers and tried tried to answer any of their questions. i want them to have a strong faith to lean on now and through out their entire life time. my husband is not catholic but supports us and does whatever he can to make sure they are getting what they need to be educated religiously or through their school. he is very proud of the girls for becoming catholic and that helps a lot. when the girls and i pray the rosary we pray that daddy will convert too…we know that God has a plan for daddy.

I am very proud of my faith, and I tell the girls to always be proud of who they are and to always be proud that they are Catholic.

The ORIGINAL POST sounds more like someone trying to choose which Soccer Team to follow/root for than accepting or being part of a Church.
It’s nothing but a selfish “this fits me better than that one does” concept.
May Jesus help them.

There are no mentions of Jesus’ Word, and His importance; which should be our main concern. What do we go to Church for? Tho show off our new clothes and cars?

The OP only mentions the selfish side of humanity in this world. In reality, our world is nothing but a passage which requires our submission and obedience to our Father.

As far as what’s being taught today in Catholic Churches and Schools, I think we could do a lot better. Let’s start with…hmmm…The Bible? The understanding and direction our Father wants us to follow?
I can understand that the Sacraments are fundamental, but His Word has to be of as much worth.

May Jesus give us strength to deal with all these problems worldwide. As long as He is with us, we have his Love and peace.
I pray for those involved in the unfortunate scandal in our Catholic Church.
May Jesus lead our way…

Because ultimately it’s not about me and what I think and what I want–it’s about God and what He wants!
 
I had to stop and think about this one. My anti-catholic pals kept bringing it up. Eventually, I decided that if I couldn’t show up now when things are looking grim, why show up when things are looking good? It’s really all the more reason to become a Catholic, if you look at it the right way.
