Personally, I think this sort of thing (blog) approaches the level of creating scandal. The Bishop calls into question whether or not a priest might or might not be guilty of abuses in the confessional…and neither confirms nor denies such abuses.
He writes that he’s “pretty sure it was a valid mass”. If a Bishop cannot tell whether or not a mass is valid…
He says he wanted to go to confession
after the mass…but does not make the parenthetical statement as to whether or not he felt he was in mortal sin. Anyone reading the blog might assume it was OK to go to mass and receive the Eucharist as long as they went to confession after mass.
He implies that having the Tridentine Rite would take care of all liturgical abuses. This is silly. and insulting to priests who celebrate the OF in a licit and valid manner, methinks.
If this was Joe parishioner, I’d have no problem with it. But as a Bishop, he used his office to give gravitas to his comments. After all, he attended mass as a “Joe Parishioner”, not as a Bishop, but then wonders aloud whether or not he should use the weight of his office to help affecte positive change.

!
And it’s not clear what or how he addressed the issue; as a vacationing parishioner who shrugs his shoulders as “oh, well, I’m glad we don’t do that in our Parish” or as a Bishop, who although doesn’t have the same authority outside his diocese, nonetheless would seem to have a greater responsibility to the Church than Joe Parishioner.
While it’s not clear if he addressed the Archbishop of that particular diocese or not, it seems to me that the whole ordeal smacks of letting something go and complaining about it, then using the experience as evidence to support his personal preference to the Trintidine form.
Kinda like a politician blaming the other side for the problem, but not addressing it himself. Seems to me that rather than air the Church’s dirty laundry and giving good reason for non-Catholics to point out disorder and criticize the RC Church hierarchy, there would have been a more charitable and discreet way of handling this situation.
