Honestly, you sound a lot like me. I try to think up stories and may come close to falling in love with my own character. That tends to happen because there is another character in that story modeled after myself, so she has to interact with this attractive character I have made. Also, I tell myself that I need to be more unattached, otherwise I could end up with a Mary Sue with a Gary Stu.

Sorry, there is no longer an eyeroll emoji on CAF and I am trying to figure out what people use instead.

I know I need a spiritual director especially because I suspect mild OCD (based on much research before) and im scrupulous, thanks for the advice.

In any case, be patient. File your manuscript and put it out of your mind for a few months or longer. Work on other writing projects, and when you get back to this project you will be able to look at it fresh and possibly see a way to move forward more satisfactorily.

It depends on how strong your Faith is, your mental health & sense of balance. Comparing an actor, becomes absorbed in his or her character. It can be annoying to their house partners. Who lives w them.
Conversely, a writer could become their characters. Would you change your behaviors w each character?
Can you snap out of it? Does your family find you obnoxious.
So, balance & control!
Can Christians write romantic smut books? No. What are your real life ppl doing. Evil & good are written about. Have to be written about.
It just means, what you & your family manage
God bless!
If you have a talent, let it shine!

Oh me, oh my…sigh. Writing can be a very good desepline for you. Don’t stop writing, just reappraise your characters. Your writing and characters are not your core problem for impure thoughts unless your story line is composed in that direction. Try to just write just a page or two every day and read it out loud to yourself. If you have a tape recorder read it into the recorder and play it back to yourself. You will open your automatic creativity treasure box and will go back the next day and edit and make changes. Try this for a month or so. You will be surprise, but do be consistent.
