You do.

Just because suffering exists doesn’t mean God doesn’t love us. It is He who gives us the strength to bear it with grace.

No. God loves them alright, but its like a busy rich man who finds time in anything except the time to spend time with his family so his children can get to know him better. For that rich man, being a provider alone is enough to show his “love”. Is that an ideal Dad? Certainly not! But he does have some degree of love for his family.

And this analogy goes for believers. Who always try to communicated with God, but God refuses to communicate back.

For people who lived and died without knowing Jesus, its like a man who gave away his children for adoption, and gave the orphanage some money for his children that he gave away. These poor kids grow up guessing who their parents are. And died not knowing.

As you say, if God is like this who needs him! But God isn’t like this. In each life, God is there. Even if we don’t see or know him, he is there. Even when we feel abandoned, we are not. Even when life is wasted, when injustice holds sway, God is with us. This isn’t something I can prove to you. I can’t say why God permits evil to happen, why God seems distant. But I still hold to the belief that God is good and that he loves each of us. Jesus lived poor, worked as a laborer, was misunderstood, suffered under an unjust government, was betrayed by friends, was convicted of crime, was tortured, and died in great pain. I believe Jesus is God the Son. He does not abandon his own and he doesn’t abandon those who suffer even if they don’t know him. So I’ll trust that God will bring good out of our lives unless we have purposely turned away from him and done evil to others and haven’t repented of it. I think that this is the better way to live, with love and hope.

How many people who normally would not help other because they think is not of their business get to help others when they go through something like having your child die from leukemia they get compassion of other people who go through or are going through the same thing, what makes you think that that is not GODS plan??

Considering the child no longer has leukemia and (most probably) now has everlasting life, would you rather ‘it’ remained here, in this state, and suffer, perhaps for life, just so you could feel the warm and fuzzies of being a doting parent?

Yeah, I’d say God thought better than you.

Whilst the Catholic understanding of ‘suffering’ makes us “welcome” our share, we always pray to be spared it for we are weak!

What parent gives his child a stone when s/he asks for bread? Your Father, Who is in Heaven, gives abundantly without being asked. EVERYTHING you ask for, through Christ, you will receive. Just not in the form that you wanted, but in what you need…so you are not corrupted.

Yes, those in heaven have some degree of omniscience by dint of the different timescale in the afterlife.

God told us to. He wants us to raise us above the angels, and that means we need to fend for ourselves to a certain extent.

Every moment of happiness you ever had was God telling you that he loves you. Every time a stranger held a door open for you or helped you pick up your books when you had dropped them, that was God.

My kids didn’t have to ask us for food, shelter, clothing, education, our love, and medical care, college education, vacations…we gave these things to them because we loved them. If they wanted something, we’d talk about it and give it to them if it seemed reasonable.

But theists and espec RC’s pray and pray and PRAY for something, switching saints if one doesn’t work, doing rosaries, novenas, etc etc on and ON as if their god/saints don’t know, haven’t heard, what they want or need. And they are often praying for necessary things–food, jobs, health. If it’s good and necessary, we don’t need to ASK and ASK for it…do we?

this is one proudfull statement. you dont believe that God has given you everything you need without you asking. how did you get here, by asking? where do you get your food, the air you breathe, the water, and many many more things i am sure you did not ask for it and yet these things keep you alive. now all you have to do is be gratefull to Him, like you say thanks to anyone as they do things for you. why would you regard any human being to be greater than God? is it not what Jesus did for us not enough? only the Mercyfull God can save us from whatever for we out of ourselves cannot do it. for we dont know what are doing if right or wrong. St Peter being so close to Jesus yet he said things that he thought was right, he was being good, yet Jesus rebuked him. see we dont know.
