Because I love the bride of Christ Jesus and because Jesus is really present always. I am not an orphan with a God who is far away. I am a Child of the God who lives in our tabernacles.
I am Catholic by birth and through the sacraments of Reconciliation, First Communion, and Confirmation. I am therefore a “cultural” Catholic.
I am Catholic because somehow I survived my rebellion and God refused to let me go. He called me home tirelessly and so now I am comforted to reside within his own fold. The Lord is my Shepherd…I shall not want.
And of course as others have said…there is no place else to go. When I have had a bad day…I can go directly to the Lord and no matter how much I cry, how angry I am, no matter how sad, how happy, how joyful…he never laughs at me, he never diminishes me and if I am in need, he offers me the sacraments so that I can be reconciled with him. I am Catholic because the Church answered all my questions and stood soundly in the face of my rebellion and the rebellion of countless others for centuries.
