Why is "Amazing Grace" so controversial?

Posts on the Catholic Answers have stated that the hymn “Amazing Grace” is

a. heretical
b. reconcilable with Catholic theology
c. possibly confusing to the laity
d. included in many Catholic hymnals
e. all of the above.

“All of the above” is the correct answer. Why do Catholics have such a wide range of opinions regarding this hymn?
