Why is Catholic Charities USA Allowing a Dissident Priest to Keynote?

**To me, this is no different than the Boy Scout situation, the Girl Scout situation, and other seemingly confusing manifestations.

There has been an infiltration, a calculated one. The goal is to disorient (and obliterate) Catholicism in particular. but generally, American culture such as we have thought we knew it. Unfortunately. no assumptions can be made, in my opinion, about just about any organization, or public personage.

… I ran into a video tonight which shows Joe Biden clearly supporting homosexual marriage, and even referring to a television series from Hollywood saying that it, that series, is largely responsible for changing American society into one supporting this. Listening to him and watching him, it was very clear to me the strength of the opponent which has an across the board approach to getting its way, changing our culture, and gaining control. Catholic Charities, the Boy Scouts, the Girl Scouts. prominent Catholic politicians promoting homosexual activity… America, wake up. You are allowing a foreign power to push you around. All because many of us are very very naive and don’t believe any group would have long range plans that would include planning how to go about infiltrating Catholic Charities, and who should do the job. They don’t view CC the way we do; they view it as a tool, a means to disassemble, piece by piece, Catholic culture from any and every direction . . . in this country.

Who is that foreign power? Check into who, the dual citizens, are on the most powerful lobbies in this country, as well as who owns the media and Hollywood. **

Lucifer isn’t who the other poster was euphemistically referring to, though I at least understood enough to report them for it.
 
It is very disturbing to me as well. 😦

I make every attempt to be a good steward and to give wisely and this was always a “safe” place for me to donate. That has sure changed now, though.
 
Things like this are why my family stopped donating to them. There are a number of charities which do a good job of being authentically Catholic that there is no need to give to one which is not. The first time I saw something like this with them I was willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, as mistakes happen to everyone. Now however, it is clear that there is a pattern of behavior and associations which are not consistent with Catholic faith or morals.

In the late 90’s, Catholic Charities in Spokane Washington, had Marian Wright Edelman as thier key note speaker for an anniversary celebration. Bishop Skylstad, who later became the head of the USCCB, didn’t try to stop it and in fact if I remember correctly his secretary was the instigator of this key note speaker.

Catholic Charities seems to need a lot of prayer sent its way. Less donations and more prayer.
 
Why indeed? And this isn’t the first report.

Our bishop strongly supports CC, both locally and nationally. I wish we could get clear moral guidance from him on this and other questionable agencies with the name “Catholic” in them.
 
To be fair, some of the local Catholic Charities groups are doing things the right way. The one in Tulsa for example, seems extremely squared away and is doing some great things. The problem is no consistency on Catholic doctrine from one locality to another, and very poor compliance with this at the national office level.

Here are some selected quotes (I encourage everyone to read it in its entirety so that the quotes can be seen in context):

  • The agencies referred to … are required to select their personnel from among persons who share, or at least respect, the Catholic identity of these works.

To this end, he is also to provide for their theological and pastoral formation, through specific curricula agreed upon by the officers of various agencies and through suitable aids to the spiritual life.
  • It is the duty of the diocesan Bishop and the respective parish priests to see that in this area the faithful are not led into error or misunderstanding; hence they are to prevent publicity being given through parish or diocesan structures to initiatives which, while presenting themselves as charitable, propose choices or methods at odds with the Church’s teaching.
  • In particular, the diocesan Bishop is to ensure that charitable agencies dependent upon him do not receive financial support from groups or institutions that pursue ends contrary to Church’s teaching. Similarly, lest scandal be given to the faithful, the diocesan Bishop is to ensure that these charitable agencies do not accept contributions for initiatives whose ends, or the means used to pursue them, are not in conformity with the Church’s teaching.
  • In a particular way, the Bishop is to see that the management of initiatives dependent on him offers a testimony of Christian simplicity of life. Hopefully, in the years going forward, Catholic Charities and others will be in compliance with Catholic teaching, so that the Faithful can have confidence in where they are being asked to send their money.
 
Interestingly, I received my request in the mail from Catholic Charities today. We used to donate to them but stopped when we became aware of these issues. We have typically just ignored their request and recycled the paper. This time, I chose to write a letter and send that back in their envelop stating that until such time as they stop acting in such ways which are contrary to the Faith and in such a way that they give scandal to the Faithful, our family will not be donating to them. I concluded by reminding them that there can be no true charity without truth and that I would pray for them.

I don’t expect much if anything to come out of this, but at least I followed the dictates of my conscience, which I believe to be properly formed on this issue.

Mine won’t make a dent likely, but perhaps if enough of the Faithful take similar action they will pay attention. I doubt it though.

I mean, what more do people want? Do we expect Catholics to act on gossip and inuendo? It would seem to me that reporting this problem to the diocese and checking on the allegation through official sources is the proper thing to do.
 
A priest being openly for same-sex marriage? I’d imagine more support it, but keep their opinions inside and stay mum about it.

This is not that bad, honestly. They could be hosting a priest who came to deny transubstantiation or the divinity of Christ or another essential dogma of the Church. Unless he acted upon those opinions in the future, [say he became a bishop and ordained women falsely or presided over a same-sex wedding] he wouldn’t really be dissident or anything bad, in my honest opinion. He just seems to be with the status quo.
