Marie, I pray for everyone, no matter how silly they appear to be. It’s just that thecourt comes in here and accuses us of things, does not listen to us and only throws very weak and unconvincing arguments at us.

And they claim to have been Catholic. I think when I was in third grade I knew more about Catholicism than they do now. It kind of makes me think that they are lying about being a Catholic, because their vision of Catholicism is so warped that I cannot believe they used to belong to the faith.

Had they been any other denomination, I could understand, but they claim to have been Catholic… their views of Catholicism are simply not acceptable to anyone who knows the faith.

Also, I have seen other LDS members who actually knew something about our faith and propose valid arguments. And they were never Catholic. I respect those people because they are genuine. I always have a good debate with genuine people.

I think thecourt is misleading us about their Catholic roots.

Marie5890 I know sufficient about my church’s history and so I have no plans to leave it and run back to Catholicism? Nice try. I am not coming to the Roman Catholic church.

Dont be too hard on thecourt.

Converts to Mormonism do have colored glasses on and know very little of Mormon history. The real Mormon history. Not the whitewashing that has been going on in the past few decades.

When those rose colored glasses finally come off the realization that one has been duped and deceived can be overwhelming causing a great deal of anger and pain.

I know it did me. I was deeply involved. Went to BYU. Live in UT for well over a decade. Went thru the temple and “took out my endowments” Was a “Relief Society” President (the women’s organization of the LDS church)

He/she will need our support, encouragement and prayers. Our understanding.

Pray for thecourt. He/she needs our prayers more than I can tell you.
I can relate. When I finally realized that I had been deceived by the LDS and that Mormonism is all built on lies, it was very painful. It took me several years after that to find the courage to leave, and then 14 years after that to get over the anger and distrust of religion enough to allow me to come back to the Catholic faith.

Wisdomseeker the church will never need to be restored again because the Lord his restored church would not be destroyed or taken from the earth, his [SIGN]priesthood authority particularly.[/SIGN]
I recognize Catholicism wishes we would go away. We are not.
Yes authority. Glad you brought it up. Jesus said You are Peter and upon this rock I will build my church…

Now when did Jesus take the keys to the kingdom off if Peter and hand them over to JS. Never thats when. Because Peter handed the keys over to the Pope and he still has them.

We as Catholic’s do not want you people to go away. We want what Jesus wants and that is for us all to unite into the Same Church he started over 2000 years ago.

If you are the right Church and we are the wrong Church where were you when Jesus left the Church? Why did he not say you are Joseph Smith? Why did he say Peter? We go by the words and teachings of Jesus Christ not Joseph Smith. He has nor ever has had any authority over the CC. You heard Jesus clear as the rest of us. He built the Church on Peter and gave him and the Apostles the authority by the Power of the Holy Spirit.

Randy Carson claims that when some leave the LDS church, that means it is false?

I am worried about those who leave. The church will continue to grow in spite of those who leave it.

[SIGN]Catholicism loses members — does this not bring in question your lack of being the true church?
[/SIGN]

This does not even make sense. When some of the Jews walked away from Jesus because they could not accept his teaching does that mean he wasn’t really Jesus? Come on!

Jesus Christ left us the CC and the Apostles to lead us to the truth. He also gave us free will to accept those teachings or reject them. He told his Apoostles He who hears you hears me. Does you Church go by the teachings of the Apostles. No it does not. Because JS was not a Apostle.

YES! I so know what you mean. Took a long time for me to trust again. It was devastating the pain, the betrayal.

I served and fulfulled my callings. Worthily held my recommend. Diligently paid a full tithe etc etc…Only to find out how I had been deceived!!..

I was so angry. Took awhile to heal.

I truly feel sorry for Mormons. They really are good people. Decent. They give so much of themselves. Sacrifice so much.

And yet they dont know the facts of their own history.

Sad. Very Sad.

Not warped so much as immature. One thing I’ve realized over the years is that those who leave Catholicism are the ones that stopped learning about it when they were confirmed (about age 12). So for the rest of their lives they have an adolescent view of Catholicism. As they approach adulthood, they find that their 12-year-old understanding of Catholicism is inadequate to guide their lives. But rather than conclude that they need to go back and obtain an adult understanding of the Catholic faith, they conclude that Catholicism has nothing to offer an adult, so they go looking for a religion that will satisfy their adult needs. And with that 12-year-old mentality firmly in place, they are the perfect victims for false religions like Mormonism or the Watchtower.

That is precisely what happened to me.

And all the time the full, deep richness of the Catholic faith was right there for the taking.

Is is truly a shame.

If you read the rantings of the ex-Catholics on these fora, you will see that their understanding of Catholicism always sounds like that of a 12 year-old.

People study their way into Catholicism. People study their way out of Mormonism. It will always be so.

The best thing we can do is pray for them. Pray that the Holy Spirit can come upon them and show them the light of our dear Lord Jesus.

Nw that’s what I call the Power of the Holy Spirit. 👍

I would love to see the date that the apostasy took place. I would love to see who lead it and what resistance it met. I want to see those details.

rinnie Joseph Smith was the instrument to restore the true Church of Christ in light of how the other churches draw near me yet whose hearts are far from me, they teach for doctrines the commandments of men ( I quoted part of the revelation from the Lord received by Joseph Smith.)

Bottom line, for me, no “seeds” trying to bring me back to the so called true church, Catholicism, here are not going to cause me to lose my conviction of the truth.

I’ve met some very wonderful Mormons who led very humble lives. Most are very sincere and I admire their devotion. I never imagined any to be conniving, though. But I guess there’s a first time for everything. 🤷

I imagine there are conniving Catholics as well, so I suppose I shouldn’t judge. :o

That is one of the most insightful and perceptive observation. I have seen that time and time again. It was my own experience.

Researching and studying.

Catholicism loses members — does this not bring in question your lack of being the true church?
thecourt,

I guess you haven’t learned yet that, every day, hundreds of life-long Mormons apply to have their names taken off the records of the LDS church. Hundreds more every day simply go inactive. And the numbers are accelerating…

And…
In most of the world, the LDS church has ony a 5% - 20% convert retention rate. That means that for every 100 persons baptized by the missionaries, between 80 and 95 of them leave the church within the first year.

— does this not make you doubt that the LDS church is true?

PaulDupre so Catholicism is doing a great job in light of the Protestant, Evangelical, as well as my church who continue to help you keep your members?

I would guess those folks left Catholicism as I did because Catholicism lacks the truth.

Yes, I stopped practicing religion because of my 12 year old mentality as well. I came back because of a spiritual incident that caused me to re-examine what it was I was doing with my life. I briefly explored Protestantism, but it just didn’t seem right. I started to learn more about the faith I abandoned and I was just in awe of what I didn’t see that was right before my eyes the whole time. I still have that experience quite a bit and I love the knowledge God keeps showing me. I know I’m in the right place because of that spiritual event I mentioned, and of the perfect fit that comes with the marriage of faith and reason.

That spiritual occurrence was a confirmation of the sinful state I was in at the time, and what I truly meant to God, if I would only stop my sinful life. I admit, most people don’t have locutions, and I only had that one. But I think God had to slap me upside the head in order for me to see. And to be honest it was not an immediate thing. I fundamentally knew what happened, but I chose to ignore it. And ignoring the locution brought catastrophe into my life. It was only after the catastrophe that I started to re-examine my faith. I’m glad I did, because God reveals Himself to me all the time. And yes, I’m still a sinner with great faults but He loves me anyway. As He does us all.

Hi Snert,
I also frequently think “how could I have missed that?”. It’s amazing how similar are the stories of those who come back to the Catholic faith after many years away. It is truly inspiring. I believe that, had I not fallen away in my teens and gone through the pain of Mormonism before coming back, I would not be the devout (though certainly imperfect) Catholic I am today.

Sometimes God takes us around the long way…

Snerticus it was unfortunate your experience, nonetheless it does not mean I have been deceived.

I have the truth and will not come back to Catholicism.

I wish you well in your future.

Snert, thanks for sharing with us a bit of your conversion story. 🙂

For me, my journey has been a conversion of healing. 🙂
