It is considered anti-Catholic I believe, why?

OP, while you wait for more replies, I believe there may be old threads if you use the search feature.

I have heard it said that freemasonry has received more papal condemnations than any other issue.

The fact that the movement in Europe attracted a huge number of anti-Church and anti-clerical members who in past centuries had huge demonstrations and riots against the Church and went around writing and announcing how they were going to destroy the Church, is why.

Even the Freemasons in USA were so upset when the Pope sent a stone for the Washington Monument (as many other world leaders were doing at the time) that they all formed a mob and pushed the Pope’s stone into the Potomac. That’s how much they hated us, they wouldn’t even accept a free big block of marble for their obelisk.

I think that the Catholic Church’s hostility to Freemasonry is mostly because Freemasons were historically so hostile to the Catholic Church. But I doubt that it ever really had a religious component for most Mason’s in the US. It was mostly just a social club. In the course of doing genealogy research, I’ve come across dozens of men in 19th century New England who were Masons and also in most cases, church going Protestants.

No masons are panthestic at the ceremony of intitation a mason is asked if they believe in a god and if they say Jesus, god allah Shiva Satan they are all acceptable answers you may think what is the problem well the masons are saying that both faith in God and faith in Satan are both equally good so do you start to see the problem

The key word is mostly as you rise the ranks it gets worse and worse also when you rise in the ranks. They have rituals they even call there meeting places temples it even looks like something a religion would have its far more than a club

That is exactly what a member of a secret society would say… lol

I’m certain that the temples, the imagery, the secret knowledge, etc. were meant to add a certain mystique to being a Mason. But there’s nothing to it.

There are all sorts of clubs that people belong to that don’t have anything to do with God or religion. But what’s wrong with that?

@Tis_Bearself
Do you know whether the stone was retrieved?

There’s a difference between not being about God or religion and being against God or religion.

Really that’s like saying that there is no meaning to the symbols on a cathedral of course there is meaning to it nothing is built with no meaning especially if the masons built it

You don’t understand that freemasonry isn’t as simple as a sports club.

Freemasonry started in Scotland in the Early Modern Era and expanded gradually in other (mainly) protestant countries, with symbology and rituals based on the Enlightment (deism) and occultism (they may have draw inspiration from other movements like Rosicrucianism).

That sounds very suspicious, if not gnostic. But it became more clear when the freemasons instigated the French Revolution and killed many catholics. Later they would do something similar in the Spanish Civil War and the Mexican Revolution.

Then there is the whole philosophical problems like that freemasonry is relativistic, etc.

As I said, lots of church-going Protestants were Masons in the 19th century. They weren’t anti-religion.
