Hello,
I have had questions about this topic for several years. In the Old Testament, God seems very harsh, and not very loving. For example, many of the Old Testament laws, such as breaking the Sabbath ended in death. I thought that the Catholic church teaches that the death penalty is wrong (see usccb.org/issues-and-action/human-life-and-dignity/death-penalty-capital-punishment/catholic-campaign-to-end-the-use-of-the-death-penalty.cfm), but in the old testament, many Jewish laws end in death. I also thought that what is right and wrong is not something that changes, so how can it be that God told people to carry out death sentences, but then in the new testament teach it’s wrong (John 8: 1-11). I thought truth never changes, and these laws don’t seem very loving.
I hope this makes sense.
Thanks,
Pietro
