I am wondering, I know I am a protestant, but believe it or not, I do like the idea of having a large Catholic population, but how come we seem to, and this is probably just me, but o well, how come we seem to be declining and Islam rising in membership?

I mean don’t we have a lot more missionary work (combining Protestant/Orthodox/Catholic) I mean really, I know the Tennessee Baptist Convention (part of the Southern Baptist Convention) has several missionaries, and that is just for the state of Tennessee Baptists under that banner, which is a large banner for baptists, but still) I mean, I know Muslims have a large % in the Middle East, and are growing in Europe, but how? I mean, Europe was a major place of Catholocism, it just confuses me.

I have nothing against Islam, even though I try to understand it, I rarely ever find someone who will answer my questions, if any Muslims wouldn’t mine “mentoring” me if you will about Islam, please pm me.

Birth rates in Pakistan etc - not in Turkey or The Islamic Republic of Iran, however.

Second. Birth rate in Indonesia is about 1.7% p.a. There are 90% Muslims and there are 220 million of Indonesian population. So, in Indonesia alone the world has additional 3.366.000 muslims per annum.

Yeah I’m assuming a birth rate thing.

I don’t think Islam has had any large missionary movement to preach to non-Muslims in centuries.

Your assumption is correct, brother. Indonesia is the largest Muslims producer in the universe.

There is also a major issue within many Muslim communities about leaving Islam. In some, you will be killed. IN others, just shunned and put out of your family.

Non-Muslim women must convert to marry Muslim men, Muslim women will, as a rule, not marry a non-Muslim, either.

And birth rates are the biggest reason. The growth in Europe is similar to the Hispanic growth in the US: high immigration and higher birth-rates than the “native” population.

INTERESTING:
Islam
Growth rate*: 1.84 percent
Adherents: 1.3 billion
Behind the trend: High birthrates in Asia, the Middle East, and Europe
The Bahai Faith*
Growth rate: 1.70 percent
Adherents: 7.7 million
Behind the trend: High birthrates in India
Sikhism
Growth rate: 1.62 percent
Adherents: 25.8 million
Behind the trend: High birthrates in India
Jainism
Growth rate: 1.57 percent
Adherents: 5.9 million
Behind the trend: High birthrates in India
Hinduism
Growth rate: 1.52 percent
Adherents: 870 million
Behind the trend: Surprise! High birthrates in India
Christianity
Growth rate: 1.38 percent
Adherents: 2.2 billion
Behind the trend: High birthrates and conversions in the global South
Placed them in order, their is more info, but I didn’t want to post a link cause I think its against the rules.

Fertility rate (number of children born to each woman) is a much better guide than birth rate given the fact that immigrant populations tend to be younger than the general population.

The fertility rates in Turkey and Iran are at (roughly) replacement level so the question is whether the Muslim fertility rate in Europe will settle at a similar level or higher/lower. Since Muslims are faced by the same economic facts of life as everybody else it’s highly likely that, in time, the birth rate will fall - the more that Muslims are encouraged to play a fuller part in general economic activity, the lower it will fall.

Of course, I’m dismissing the idea of a Muslim plot to breed for victory when I say that.

And I am not claiming that there is one.

It may or may not fall. The prohibitions against abortion and desire to reproduce are higher than in some non-Muslim cultures. I do agree that for most, the rates in Europe will level off. For those that do not, economic factors may become more of an issue. As Europe has more socialist practices than the US, these economic factors may not hit with the same force.

The main reason is higher birth rates. There are a few other minor reasons, but they are much less of a factor.

The same used to be said of Jews, Irish . . . .

What will hit with the same force is the cost of housing and the average size of European houses!

True, but none of the other groups was replacing a shrinking workforce in some areas with a declining population.

True, unless “well thinking” politicians provide larger subsidized housing

That’s what Poles are for. 😃

Or the Black Death returns, or we get hit by an asteroid . . . . sorry but it’s really about as likely.

YUSUFALI: Marry those among you who are single, or the virtuous ones among yourselves, male or female: if they are in poverty, Allah will give them means out of His grace: for Allah encompasseth all, and he knoweth all things.

PICKTHAL: And marry such of you as are solitary and the pious of your slaves and maid-servants. If they be poor, Allah will enrich them of His bounty. Allah is of ample means, Aware.

SHAKIR: And marry those among you who are single and those who are fit among your male slaves and your female slaves; if they are needy, Allah will make them free from want out of His grace; and Allah is Ample-giving, Knowing. [Al-Noor “The Light” - 24:32]
"Let us examine the goals of the West in their call for birth control. The goal is to drive Muslims to decline. In this they have found a most effective and devastating weapon capable of weakening Muslims after the failure of all their other weapons." - Imam Muhammad Shirazi (In his book, The Family In Islam 3rd edition)
"When the servant of Allah marries, he has fulfilled half the (responsibilities laid on him by the) faith; so let him be God conscious with respect to the other half". (Prophet Mohammad)
“When a man marries, he indeed perfects half of his religion. Then he should fear Allah for the remaining half.” (Bukhari)

Obviously worked in the Islamic Republic of Iran and Turkey then.

I haven’t studied this topic much, but I suspect Islam is growing in the under-developed world. Somehow it satisfies local spiritual needs better than any other religion. Its teaching that it’s okay to hate and kill your enemy corresponds more closely to Man’s deeper, bestial instincts. This requires less from the believer, in terms of over-coming self and human nature. I mean no disrespect to anyone.

Hi

Since the advent of Second Coming 1835-1908, a lot of missionary activities are being done by Ahmadiyya peaceful Muslims in the world.

Thanks
