Why is it a sin to miss Mass on Sunday?

I disagree this is off topic, for if it wasn’t in the Bible then no it would not be a sin to miss it.

That doesn’t follow. There are a lot of things that are not explicitly spelled out in the Bible that are still sinful. We don’t believe in sola scriptura; as Catholics we believe that the Church has the authority to teach and guide us and to interpret scripture. That it is sinful to miss Mass on Sunday is an example of the Church using her authority to bind and loose as given to the apostles. It is an application of the commandment to keep holy the Lord’s day.

I find this post ridiculous. If anything people spent more time in church at that point in history. Also there used to be 38 holy days of obligation before St. Pope Pius X suppressed many of them of being obligatory. Basically any feast day of one of the apostles or Mary and Joseph were obligation days.

Is it still a sin if I miss Sunday Mass but instead attend a weekday Mass? I find it very difficult to go on Sundays as my family never goes to Mass and we get caught up in other unplanned events/activities etc. I find it more peaceful and I have better concentration going alone to a less crowded weekday mass before work. Sometimes I’ll even go more than once a week to the weekday masses, but for some reason Sundays are tough.

Are you a minor? If so, then it’s your parents’ responsibility to get you to Mass when you’re supposed to be there. Otherwise, your Sunday obligation is your responsibility. If Sundays are that big an issue, then go find a church that offers a Sunday vigil Mass on Saturdays in the evening. That would also fulfill your obligation.
