There seems to be a dichotomy between the recent guidance from the Vatican regarding cremation remains in their proper burial versus the relics of saints. I understand the guidance that cremated remains must be buried and not scattered. However, the handling of relics of the saints seems to conflict with this guidance. Bones and other parts of saints bodies are treated as relics that are sent to many different places. Saints such as St. James the Greater has had part of his body in one place in pardoning other for example.
Please explain how this handling of saints relics versus cremation remains is consistent.
