Why is it important that Jews recognize Jesus?

I think the acts of anti-Semitism such as Dr. Ager has described are a terrible thing and they unfortunately were not stopped, and sometimes were even encouraged by clergy who chose to focus on intolerance/violence.

The Church has made some apologies for this behavior but I’m not sure where and I think a lot more could be done. At the very least, clergy and lay people should do their best to make sure that episodes of violence at Christian holiday times, such as Holy Week, are prevented. (b/c there is an unfortunate history of violence during Holy Week/Good Friday in particular.)

While I agree that bullies might do these things, they should not receive any encouragement from other people. The Church may not have a lot of impact on their parents other than making sure to preach that anti-Semitism is wrong, and avoiding this “deicide” charge, which Vatican II told Catholics to stop preaching/believing in.

However the Church has more control over the messages it gives to the faithful and to priests and others regarding what they teach.

Personally I have never encountered anyone saying or doing these things, such as preaching this stuff or abusing Jewish people b/c of it. However that does not mean the events never occur. But I would not say it’s anything like the majority of people who believe in deicide or that Jews are “bad.” If the Catholics I knew growing up did believe it, they didn’t tell me about it. And I was raised in a very devout atmosphere (Catholic church, school, friends, etc.)

This question is for you:
Do you think that the Jews can be saved by their covenant, what the Christians and Messianic Jews call the old covenant?
Or do you think that anyone, Jew or not, can only be saved through Jesus Christ?
And Messianic Jews still consider themselves to be Jews.
And non-Catholic Christians still consider themselves to be Jews.
And Catholic Jews still consider themselves to be Jews, although many call themselves Hebrew Catholic.
And your Catholic Church says that the Jews will one day recognize Jesus as The Messiah and recognize Him as God. I think your Catholic Church thinks that God will call the Jews and they will believe.

for those who have never been victims of anti-semitism, it is hard to understand the persecution that the Jewish people have faced for thousands of years. whenever something bad happened throughout history and there was no clear answer, they blamed the Jewish people. sadly, many suffered persecution at the hands of the Catholic Church and i think they are very fearful to trust the Catholic church.
throughout history, the Jewish people have maintained their faith in God and they have survived the many persecutions. i only wonder what the size of the Jewish population would be today, if it were not for the Holocaust and the Jewish people throughout history simply because they were Jewish. there were many conversions by force. the Jewish people are very educated and they do not forget history and what their ancestors before them have endured from anti-semitism. is it any wonder that they don’t go running to the Christian faith? anti-semitism is still very much alive today, so i think that there are many misunderstandings and bad history between the two faiths that it will take years to overcome the mistrust.

I wonder about that too. It seems a huge loss to the Jewish people as well as the entire world. And I agree with everything else you said.

Personally I feel the greater burden of sensitivity should be on the Catholic church, partly b/c of this history, and partly b/c Catholics are so much larger in numbers. I think it can be easy for the majority group to overlook the fact that it can be far more influential than a minority group. And I would say the same principle applies in countries where Christians are a small minority.
