Please pray for me that I may always be a loyal follower of your Son, as you are. You have shown me how to Love your Son. You are the Mother of God and Jesus’ disciple. *
*You are the only person who ever lived that was with Jesus from the beginning, until the end at the foot of His cross. You held the baby Jesus in your arms, loving Him and protecting Him, never letting Him go, until he was taken from you at the Cross. You never denied him or left Him. I Love Mary, to the point of giving my children to her for spiritual protection.
Mary lead me to God and His Church.
Mary shows me and gives me strength when I feel overwhelmed at being a mom. I just look to her example.
When I feel distant from God (not God being distant from me), its Mary I turn to and she then will take my prayers to her Son and my Lord.

Why do you think GOD would not listen to your prayers if you become distant to HIM?? King David distanced himself from GOD on numerous occasions but always wrote a Psalm to return to HIM. GOD then called him a man after HIS own heart.

I kind of thought that Jesus gave us the invitation to love her from the Cross…“Woman behold your son ; son behold your mother”, so I try to love her as a mother- not as God.
You might try thinking of her as an intercessor like this: If you tell me about a problem and I offer to pray for you, you would hopefully respond, “Yes, please pray for me”. It’s like that with our Blessed Mother, except…she always gets what she wants, Jesus can’t refuse her. The wedding feast at Cana hints this to us.

NDfan,my children have Always belonged to God, they have belonged to Him since the beginning. I give them to Mary because like any good mother (her being the Perfect Mother), she teaches and comforts. Even in our own homes, children more often then not will run to their mother when they are hurt or lost for comfort. Its the nurturing of a mothers hug they seek.
As an Atheist, I did not know God. It was after reading about Mary (I was completely captivated by her and loved her instantly) that I wanted to learn more about her. The more I learned about her the more I learned about her Son. Once you leave a crack open in the door of your heart, God will “burst” open and let His light shine through. It was through Mary that I found God.
My relationship with God may be different then yours or anyone elses. I look to God as my Strength and Authority and Judge and Teacher and Creator but NOT as my close personal friend (explanation in order: As a parent of children, my role is not to be their best friend, but to be their parent with all that intails. In heaven, then I shall call God my friend. But for now, I feel in my heart I can not and that is how I worship Him,it works for me). Personally I don’t think I’d survive very long wiothout Jesus. But my devotion to our Blessed Mother is a big part of it. She keeps bringing me to Him. That’s her job - to bring us to Jesus…and no one does it more tenderly.
I’m a guy - not a mother.So I’m unable to see it from a mother’s perspective. Cardinal Joseph Mindzenty (who spent time in a concentration camp) wrote a beautiful tribute to mothers (sorry I don’t have it anywhere handy). In it he said that no one was closer to God the Creator than a mother.
Personally I also consider Jesus my friend and my brother. Jesus calls us his friends (John 15:14), but adds “…if you do what I command you.” That ,in turn, implies all that you’ve mentioned first - Strength, Authority, Judge and Teacher.
I believe it was St. Bonaventure who told his contemporary - St. Thomas Aquinas that he sought God the “Lover” rather than God the “Teacher”. I think it’s possible to do both (so did Aquinas). What’s so difficult about “loving” God the Teacher?
With Jesus, there must be a million different approaches to loving God in truth. The important thing is that we do love Him. I feel edified by everyone else’s comments on this thread.
I’m a guy - not a mother.So I’m unable to see it from a mother’s perspective. Cardinal Joseph Mindzenty (who spent time in a concentration camp) wrote a beautiful tribute to mothers (sorry I don’t have it anywhere handy). In it he said that no one was closer to God the Creator than a mother.
Personally I also consider Jesus my friend and my brother. Jesus calls us his friends (John 15:14), but adds “…if you do what I command you.” That ,in turn, implies all that you’ve mentioned first - Strength, Authority, Judge and Teacher.

The most important person… on earth is a Mother.
She cannot claim the honor of having built Notre Dame Cathedral.
She need not.
She has built something more magnificent than any cathedral –
A dwelling for an immortal soul, the tiny perfection of her baby’s body.
The angels have not been blessed with such a grace.
They cannot share in God’s creative miracle to bring new souls to Heaven.
Only a human mother can.
Mothers are closer to God the creator than any other creature.
God joins forces with mothers in performing this act of creation…
What on God’s good earth is more glorious than this:
