I am beginning to see we are dealing at times with locusts…do you know what I mean??? It is not the people…it is principalities and how heretics are able to reach the depths of people’s souls, take away their peace and understanding and make them so contentious at times using the Word of God…

I wouldn’t say recently, it has been like this for sometime. The locusts on the soul? How about, " Christ our Savior being the number 1 priority"? Even Mary herself, humbled herself as a simple servant of God (perfection is something Mary displayed thru her great humility). We need to stay focused on how great God our Father is. We all deserved the pit, yet he still gave us a chance thru his son Christ Jesus. The role of Mother Mary:
- Humble, great servant of God. Never questioning, accepting the role and responsibility of bearing the Christ.
- Raising and protecting the savior through his growth.
- After Jesus’ ministry started, focus shifted to Christ Jesus. Rightfully so. Holy Mother Mary completed her mission with great honor and grace. The perfect woman for the job, who never made a mistake and never sinned (even though she lived the human condition/sin nature).
Bottom line, the Catholic Church compiled the Holy Bible. If other documentation was found that testifies of these things about Holy Mother Mary, why didn’t the Catholic Church add them so this conflict on the higher significance of Mary could be justified for all (not just to Protestants, but the entire world)? Don’t throw the conversation off in left field that “The evil locusts” are eating at our souls. How is evil eating away at a persons soul when he/she has repented of their sins and accepted Jesus as there Lord and Savior? Even Mary herself never esteemed herself as high as the Catholics do today. So where did the disconnect in Christian theology occur? Mary is not in the redemption process. People please understand what you are saying. “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except thru me”. These were the words of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ. Our blessed mother Mary is near and dear to our hearts, but even she would say, “Stay focused on my Son and you will be saved”. This is the Mary I praise and thank for here selfless service.

In favor of Protestants I have to say that many of them behave as Catholics should but do not. They stand strong on cultural issues and put us to shame a lot of the time.
Most probably do not know the irrationality behind the schism. And not all of them display withering contempt and rebellious hatred for the Mother of God.
But those that do—there isn’t any logic or reason behind it. It’s ridiculous to state that God would create His perfect vessel, who would THEN have an ordinary brood, as though being the Mother of Jesus is not enough of a mission.
They wouldn’t dare utter such drivel about their own mothers, yet dare to spit venom at the Mother of God?
To Jesus through Mary! Amen!

Well said. I do love my own mother and thank her for giving me life. To Jesus thru Mary (not a Biblical statement)? I thought I could go direct? To God thru Christ Jesus, I can use this Biblical truth and be accurate.

The experience of knowing Mary in the ethnic Latin churches in Europe and beyond is far richer and deeper than in America…I have found the devotion to Mary in our country when I was young a real disconnect for me… a plaster Mary.
When I worked overseas and witnessed how the European Latins related to her, then I could understand. Christmas Eve, 1974. Very profound and beautiful. Made me understand how we are a communion of believers united with those in heaven. It took me 7 years afterwards to come to Mary. But I finally did praying the rosary when John Paul II was shot in Rome.
After that, I continued to grow and learn more about the faith, recovering what I missed from the pre Vatican II days in a parish with much need for reform. Came to this parish that bragged about not having a rosary said for 20 years and they would refuse to have any statue of Mary in the church. They were American Catholics. A lady fought for two years to put an icon of Mary into the church, finally got it placed next to the doorway when people go out. After alot of contention, somebody went to get the bishop up there. First time he came in to check it out, a woman came up to him and asked him what he was doing out there. People protesting with billboards on the street. He almost shut the place down. Now, 20 years more later, it is so devoted to Mary and they have alot of peace and unity.
I am thankful through Mary that she has given us our place and worth in the church, and I wish Anglo women would learn more about Mary as she has so much help to give. We live in such a highly sexualized culture, America promotes so much sex and contraceptions and abortion into the world, further bringing down moral standards among the people.

Not all that we hold as true comes solely from Scripture but from our faith lived out. It has subsequently taken longer to compile thought on Mary.
Our constitution is not like hers. We can never be like her. But she is here with us to share her graces with us and to enable us – through her – to be more proximate with Christ.
I prefer to live a faith in Christ as a community and not by myself with Scripture.

No not at all. She is the perfect servant. Protestants with any biblical knowledge, should understand and accept this. On the other hand I wouldn’t have a statue of Mary in my yard. My love and respect for her is in my heart and spirit, that is all and everything I need. I love her and thank her, but no need for anything further as far as statues (training aids sort of speak or veneration aids in the case of Mother Mary). This is my opinion and it does not necessarily reflect the opinions of other Catholics. I understand why the Catholic church uses the statuary and symbols (reminds us of Christ, Mary, and the many apostles who gave there all for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ/statues are not worshipped). However, when it comes down to it, I personnally really don’t need the worship aids. I know who they are and realize there great importance (especially my Lord’s great sacrifice for a undeserving wretch like me). Thank you God for extending your grace to a sinful wretch like me!

thank you jimmy. actually got some road time in the past couple of months. very interesting job. especially when you have to go on a domestic… people really do not understand. and shortly, i get to actually go and do the other part of my job. now that is something that is going to be truly interesting. Interestingly the John 2: 3-5 passage is the last time Mary speaks in the Bible. There is no recorded words of her after she says, “Do whatever He tells you.” She obviously does speak as she and the brothers and sisters of Jesus want to see Him but the exact words are not recorded as they are in John 2. I have heard it said that this can be used as Mary’s last recorded message to believers that was recorded in the Bible. Rather fitting that the focus is not on her but on Jesus as she knew her role was only to carry the Child. It is like John the Baptist, when Jesus’ ministry comes into the open he “must decrease.” It is after this passage Mary fades back into the background so to speak and is not really mentioned by name until the Crucifixion.

I can remember as a boy growing up an a VERY conservative Methodist church that I asked a question of why do why not refer to Mary as St. Mary like other churches do and the reply was “women cannot be saints.” Sad that they were that closed minded, I guess that the women of the church were never going to make it to heaven as the Bible speaks of the sainthood of all believers.
I agree with benidict in that having a statue of Mary or any other saint is not different than having a picture of a family member in the house. I have Orthodox Icons in my personal devotion area and a statue of Mary next to the Blessed Sacrament. Do I need them to bring me closer to God? NO. I have them because they enhance my worship. By the same token does a church need an organ to sing by? NO, but it enhances the worship experience.
