Our priest announced that Jan. 1st (The Motherhood of Mary) would not be a Holy Day of Obligation this year. What is the reasoning behind this? (We are in the diocese of San Bernardino in California.) Thank you.
This is indeed interesting since the 2015 Ordo, (the Order of Prayer in the Liturgy of the Hours and the Celebration of the Eucharist for the Diocese of San Bernardino) identifies January 1st on page 25, as a holy day of obligation in the USA.
