Why is jealousy a sin?

@Rozellelily jealousy and beauty can be taken separately (you can be jealous of a friend who isn’t attractive.)

Our attraction to beauty in theology is treated as part of the appetites - which is also very broad.

But does God pick our features or is it genetic?
It is reality that some cultures are as a whole more attractive that others.
While attractiveness ‘levels’ may still vary amongst people in that culture,as a whole, they are still more attractive.
It seems that genes play more role that God?
It is NOT reality that some cultures, or even some people, are more attractive than others. What is found to be attractive is largely influenced first by our humanity and then by our culture. It is man who says “______ is attractive, ________ is not attractive”, not God. In fact, I would say God is far, far more concerned with our spiritual attractiveness than with our physical attractiveness. Those men and women praised in the Scriptures, and canonized within the church, are praised not for their physical attributes but rather for their spiritual ones. The Beatitudes and the Virtues and even the Vices have nothing to do with physical attractiveness.

Are humans overly concerned with physical appearance? Definitely. In fact, humanity is concerned with physical attractiveness that we pay people to let us look at them, to model our clothing and to convince us to buy products or purchase a service. But that is humanity. We know that a. all humans are born with concupiscence and that our passions are often disordered by our own nature and also by the evil that is ruler of this world. Is God overly concerned with physical appearance? I would say not at all, based on my experience.

To make the statement that genes play more of a role than God is to seem confused regarding the place of God in all things, including genetics. God MADE those genes that we are endowed with. He KNIT us in our mother’s womb and He knows the number of the hairs on our head. The features you have are given you by God. What we see as physically unattractive may well be beautiful and lovable in God’s eyes. If we do not see it that way, it is our failing…not His.

Women in the west are the most masculine. Feminism is one of the causes.

Is it that the blokes pay no heed to how all the females there look or is it more that they are paying no mind to how most of them look (ie:only paying notice to the very pretty ones)?

Im sure there’s some of that but there’s still also ‘appreciation’ of femininity which explains why things like Victoria’s Secret became so successful.

Jealousy is as severe as hell, so says Song of Songs chapter
8:6 , w/o the Love of God, jealousy is just selfishness, BUT unrequ-
ited love or unreturned love is a grievious sin against a God who
made Himself VULNERABLE to rejection, but sacrificed His pride
and joy so that we can LIVE as His children, legally and forever!!

For the most part women seem less superficial/less focused on needs for looks in a boyfriend but men are more expectant of beauty.
Get to know some other men. Two of the most beautiful faces I’ve ever seen:

Possibly, but the very pretty ones are exceptions, I think. And women also notice very handsome men.

But I do think that the people who pay most attention to how other women look are women. If a women comes into work with a new hairstyle, even if it was someone I worked closely with, I’m not sure I’d notice until about after 4 or 5 days. Female colleagues, on the other hand, seem to notice such things straight away.

Yes I think it’s twofold.
Us women (with some exceptions) are probably more naturally inclined in the first place to things like shopping for new clothes, hairstyles etc and noticing them.
At the same time there’s also a social/conditioning aspect -living in a world that strongly rewards beauty in women (whether by relationship, better work opportunities, compliments, fun etc) and women live this everyday so they compliment a woman with a new hairstyle to make her feel good about herself.

Women know women and they know that it isn’t only the very pretty ones that enjoy compliments and being noticed but all women.

If a guy sees a ‘plainer’ women get a new hairstyle etc then I think he should compliment her, but then again,in this current politically correct climate I don’t know well that will go down with some women in the workplace?🤔

That is if we notice such things. I love my wife to bits and I often don’t notice when she’s been to the hairdresser. What chance is there of noticing this with a female colleague? I think that on a day to day basis women are more interested in how other women look than men are.
