Why is Jesus God?

What I’m confused on is the first part. Where do the Prophets say Jesus will be God? I’ve never seen that in the OT (then again I’ve never read the OT). Does anyone have an answer to this?

I believe in Jeremiah 31, God says, “I myself with tend my sheep”. I’ll see. There is one or two others. Isaiah 9:6 refers to the Messiah being God-child.

But even then, the Jews didn’t expect their messiah to be God Himself, which explains why they wanted to stone Jesus numerous times.

Kjv ISA 9: 6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

Ezekiel 34:14-15
10 ****** Thus says the Lord GOD: I swear I am coming against these shepherds. I will claim my sheep from them and put a stop to their shepherding my sheep so that they may no longer pasture themselves. I will save my sheep, that they may no longer be food for their mouths.*** 11 ****** For thus says the Lord GOD: I myself will look after and tend my sheep***.

Isaiah 9:6-7
5 *** For a child is born to us, a son is given us; upon his shoulder dominion rests. They name him Wonder-Counselor, God-Hero, Father-Forever, Prince of Peace. 6 ****** His dominion is vast and forever peaceful, From David’s throne, and over his kingdom, which he confirms and sustains By judgment and justice, both now and forever. Can someone explain the context of the Ezekiel quote? Why is God going to come against these shepards and claim His sheep from them? Who are these shepards He speaks of? Why does He want to tend to His sheep personally?

Sorry for all the questions. I’m guess I’m a curious person! 🤷

Did you read the entire chapter of 34 for context? The leaders of Israel are living off the people instead of leading them towards God.

Ezekiel is telling the leaders of Israel that they are crooked and that he is going to come and be the new shepherd. Why does he want to tend His sheep personally? So that they are led correctly!

Jesus’ words in John’s Gospel, “I am the Good Shepherd. I know my Sheep, and My Sheep know Me” would certainly draw the attention of the Scribes and Pharisees to this quote by Ezekiel.

I made another thread like this, but I still don’t have an answer.

Here’s my line of thought:
Jesus was the Messiah. No doubt about that. However, I still don’t know why that makes Him God. Couldn’t He have just been a great miracle worker who healed people, etc.? And couldn’t God have just raised Him on the third day? Couldn’t Jesus have just thought He was God, but been in error?

Sorry; I hate to ask this. :o 😦 any help would be very much appreciated.

As a sidenote: I’ve had several book recomendations but I can’t read them. If I checked them out [from the library] I would be an outcast in my family for being ‘the religious one’. I’m already going to church and Confession (weekly) so I really don’t want to risk any more alienation. Just so you all know that’s why I can’t read any book recommendations.

Jesus is God because the Bible says so and people have believed it for two thousand years. I know it sounds like a strange concept, but think about, who knows more about if Jesus is God or not, you, a person 2,000 years later, or his apostles, who actually knew him in the flesh?

Thank you for the clarification on my misspoken words ! That’s right Christ was begotten…not created…ooh…God forgive me on that one!! :o:blush:
