Yes very true,as said in 1 Corinthians 6:1717 But anyone united to the Lord becomes one spirit with him.Mother Mary was united with Jesus in Spirit. John 4:23 But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father seeks such as these to worship him. 24 God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.” John 1:12 But to all who received him, who believed in his name, he gave power to become children of God, 13 who were born, not of blood or of the will of the flesh or of the will of man, but of God.14 And the Word became flesh and lived among us, and we have seen his glory, the glory as of a father’s only son, full of grace and truth.Luke 1:37 For nothing will be impossible with God.” 38 Then Mary said, “Here am I, the servant of the Lord; let it be with me according to your word.” Then the angel departed from her.

Dear Francis,

Thanks so much for your reply, and for your continued defense of, and love for, our Mother Mary. It is so sad to me when some Catholics “shy away” from speaking of our Mother. I believe St. Louis de Montfort wrote his treatise on True Devotion to the Blessed Mother in such a time as ours, when more, not less, knowledge of Mary is needed. In his introduction to his treatise, he wrote:
  1. Finally, we must say in the words of the apostle Paul, “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor has the heart of man understood” the beauty, the grandeur, the excellence of Mary, who is indeed a miracle of miracles of grace, nature and glory. “If you wish to understand the Mother,” says a saint, “then understand the Son. She is a worthy Mother of God.” Hic taceat omnis lingua : Here let every tongue be silent.
  2. My heart has dictated with special joy all that I have written to show that Mary has been unknown up till now, and that that is one of the reasons why Jesus Christ is not known as he should be.
If then, as is certain, the knowledge and the kingdom of Jesus Christ must come into the world, it can only be as a necessary consequence of the knowledge and reign of Mary. She who first gave him to the world will establish his kingdom in the world.
Come, Lord Jesus, reign in our hearts, through Mary!

@MariaChristi Thank you in the Name of Jesus and Mary, For posting persistently, about the saint St. Louis De Montfort’s treatise on True Devition to the Blessed Virgin.all though i knew about it,and i say his prayers daily, i have never got the opportunity to read it,your post so lingered in my mind that i bought book of the same and try it read it online through the link.and it’s my opinion the best way to devotion to Mother Mary is the Holy Rosary

Dear Francis,

Thanks again for your reply and for your earnest desire to love Jesus through Mary. I began reading St. Louis de Montfort’sTrue Devotion a very long time ago, yet each time I’ve re-read it, I’ve learned more deeply God’s Truth given to this saint for the Church, to be lived in every time, not merely in De Montfort’s time.

As I’ve said before my desire to share his work is because he speaks of a need that we have yet to satisfy. I pray the Rosary Daily because Our Lady of Fatima asked us to pray that beautiful prayer and to ponder as she did the Mysteries of her life with Jesus from His Incarnation to His Ascension and also to Pentecost and finally her own Assomption into heaven where she reigns with Him now and forever. Mary is Mother and Model for the Church.

I read several volumes of the book, the Mystical City of God in an online unabridged version. I haven’t had time to go back to it, however, because of other commitments. God willing, I hope to get back to it. There are so many books I would like to read! Most of my reading is from Scripture, the Catechism of the Catholic Church and the writings of the Saints.

More important than reading, of course, is “living the Truth lovingly”, and I think that is why I encourage others to read St. Louis De Montfort and to consecrate themselves totally to Jesus through Mary. As he wrote, in his treatise:
  1. I have said that this devotion could rightly be called a perfect renewal of the vows and promises of holy baptism. Before baptism every Christian was a slave of the devil because he belonged to him. At baptism he has either personally or through his sponsors solemnly renounced Satan, his seductions and his works. He has chosen Jesus as his Master and sovereign Lord and undertaken to depend upon him as a slave of love. This is what is done in the devotion I am presenting to you. We renounce the devil, the world, sin and self, as expressed in the act of consecration, and we give ourselves entirely to Jesus through Mary. We even do something more than at baptism, when ordinarily our god-parents speak for us and we are given to Jesus only by proxy. In this devotion we give ourselves personally and freely and we are fully aware of what we are doing.
In holy baptism we do not give ourselves to Jesus explicitly through Mary, nor do we give him the value of our good actions. After baptism we remain entirely free either to apply that value to anyone we wish or keep it for ourselves. But by this consecration we give ourselves explicitly to Jesus through Mary’s hands and we include in our consecration the value of all our actions.
May you be blessed in reading and in living the True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin

I have that book ☺️ I haven’t got around to reading it get but have to soon.

Dear Therese 11,

Thanks for your reply. So happy to know you have the book – that’s a good first step. Now take another and begin to prayerfully read even a little at a time, and ponder what St. Louis De Montfort is sharing about loving and serving Jesus through Mary.

Take your time with it. If you have questions, those of us who have read it and are doing our best, by God’s Grace, to “live” our Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary will try to help you – by God’s Grace to learn the Truth of it. 🙂

Hey @Francis, I came across a 1760 edition of “The Mystical City of God” just a few weeks ago. Thought you’d enjoy the picture. The first edition was printed in 1670 in Madrid. This exemplar was in perfect condition preserved as if made yesterday. A real beauty.

Thanks MariaChristi for encouraging others to take up this wonderful devotion! I’m in the middle of renewing my consecration which I made just last year. I don’t feel I’ve put my heart into it as much as I could, so I decided to do the 33 days of prayers and readings again, praying for a more perfect total consecration and holy slavery to Jesus through Mary.
I’m hoping my dad will do it too. He expressed interest and is very devout, but he’s so busy and not huge on reading.

True Devotion is an incredible work! I must admit some of it is difficult to receive. When I first read it, I thought he was just being very poetic a large part of the time. But when I learned some solid info on Mariology that showed that his nice poetic words were actually theologically precise, then it occurred to me that, while he may not be infallible, this book is much deeper than I had thought! I’m curious to read this account from Frank Duff you mentioned.

I think this is my favorite quote of his:
"When we see her, we see our own human nature at its purest. She is not the sun, dazzling our weak sight by the brightness of its rays. Rather, she is fair and gentle as the moon, which receives its light from the sun and softens it and adapts it to our limited perception.
“She is so full of love that no one who asks for her intercession is rejected, no matter how sinful he may be. The saints say that it has never been known since the world began that anyone had recourse to our Blessed Lady, with trust and perseverance, and was rejected. Her power is so great that her prayers are never refused. She has but to appear in prayer before her Son and he at once welcomes her and grants her requests. He is always lovingly conquered by the prayers of the dear Mother who bore him and nourished him.”
I agree it should be read carefully and prayerfully. But I also like from time to time to listen to this audio book, a little bit more relaxed, and kind of just let the general message run through my ears, and pick up bits and pieces at a time. The person did a lovely job with the audio too.

Ave Maria and God bless!

Thanks so much for your reply, NJada. I will watch the video and get back to you on that. Reading St. Louis de Montfort’s words, like reading Scripture, is not just a matter of “reading” but prayerfully "listening to what God is saying through this saint. Some books on Preparation for Total Consecration “suggest” more reading than De Montfort, but I like to stay closer to the Saint’s words as he received them and lived them, by God’s Grace. Encourage your Dad to take the book and read just a little at a time,
prayerfully. Frank Duff read it at least 6 times before he understood it! 🙂

Somewhere in the article I think Frank Duff admits he didn’t understand the book at first because he didn’t have enough background, thus the lack was on Duff’s part, not on the part of De Montfort’s words. Another passage which impressed me was that he could not say it was any one part of the book that he began to understand but rather as he was reading he suddenly “knew” the book was “TRUE!”. What a grace! Frank Duff went on building grace upon grace and God gave Him more – so that now his cause is in Rome for beatification, and the Legion of Mary he founded is the largest Lay Apostolate in the Church with millions of members!

Simply beautiful @(name removed by moderator) I really enjoyed the share. Thank you 🙂

Dear NJada,

Thanks again for posting the link for watching the video. I watched the first of the five audio books and listened as the woman read from St. Louis De Montfort’s treatise on True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin. It took 48 minutes which was a commitment of time but anyone who may have difficulties with reading, may be helped both by listening as well as seeing the beautiful images – especially those from Gibson’s film “The Passion of the Christ”.

It is difficult to watch the images of Jesus’ suffering, but it is important of us to realize how much He suffered – and how much God loved the world in sending Him through Mary. It is also important to see the sufferings of Mary our Mother. Today is the First Saturday of May and special opportunity to offer Reparation to her Immaculate Heart.

The reader went a bit faster than I would have liked but then again, that is why having the book and being able to underline or take just a small part to ponder, over a longer time, is better for me. 🙂

Thanks again for posting your own thoughts and the video. I will share that link with others who may also be blessed by it.

Hello Maria Christi,

I’m glad you liked the video/audio. You’re right it isn’t necessarily the most ideal way to take in True Devotion, which is best read slowly and prayerfully, but it’s not a bad additional way to get a general reminder or overview of large parts of it. Not to mention it has a nice aesthetic to it, I think. I suppose it is that, like Holy Scripture, it is not as straightforward as we might expect it to be, which brings us back to consider it more carefully before we think we understand it.

I really enjoyed Frank Duff’s account too. I’m interested in checking out that other book he mentioned, “The Knowledge of Mary” by Fr. Januarius de Concilio.

Because she said yes!
Because she’s the best example of a Christian!
Because she’s Jesus mama!

Without her saying yes, the world would be a much different place!

Dear NJada,

I’m glad you enjoyed Fran Duff’s account too. I believe that book he mentioned, although an old one, may have been re-printed. It may still be in print but I’ve never checked it out. St. Louis De Montfort’s treatise on True Devotion to the Blessed Version was not “difficult” for me, by God’s Grace I took to it easily, and continue to learn from it.

It is difficult for others for various reasons, but I firmly believe if anyone is earnestly “asking, seeking, and knocking on the door” to find a way to know, love and serve God, that person will find this treatise a help in “receiving, finding and having the door open”! (cf Mt 7:7-11)

The video you posted may be just the beginning; or the first reading may be just the beginning, but I would encourage all who read this thread to try listening or reading prayerfully with a heart truly “asking, seeking, and knocking on the door” and believing God is faithful to His Word. 🙂

Mary is important for the same reason that you are MariaChristi… she is a creature created by God as are you.

Dear Janet,

Thanks for your reply. Yes, Mary is important for the reasons you listed, and I trust she is especially important to your growth in knowing, loving and serving God in your life.

By God’s grace, your “yes” and all God’s children who say “yes” to His Will in our lives as Mary has done, help in making the world a much different place – we can bring Jesus spiritually in our hearts, to others, because of our love for God.

Dear godisgood,

Thanks for your reply – true each of us is important – but Mary is far above all of us because of God’s special intention to create her Immaculately Conceived to be the Mother of His Word made Flesh.

If you go back to my original post on the thread, you’ll see this quote from the Catechism of the Catholic Church:
971 “All generations will call me blessed”: “The Church’s devotion to the Blessed Virgin is intrinsic to Christian worship.” The Church rightly honors “the Blessed Virgin with special devotion. From the most ancient times the Blessed Virgin has been honored with the title of ‘Mother of God,’ to whose protection the faithful fly in all their dangers and needs… This very special devotion … differs essentially from the adoration which is given to the incarnate Word and equally to the Father and the Holy Spirit, and greatly fosters this adoration.” The liturgical feasts dedicated to the Mother of God and Marian prayer, such as the rosary, an “epitome of the whole Gospel,” express this devotion to the Virgin Mary.
In that post, I also mention the small treatise on True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary by St. Louis de Montfort, which can help persons to appreciate Mary even more than perhaps some - even Catholics – do today.

It is good to see every person God created as important because Jesus died for all, but Mary is one who is really “more important” for she so perfectly obeyed God. Sinless and ever faithful, Mary is both Mother and Model for the Church. 🙂

As a Filipino Catholic, it is a totally different story, Catholics in my country are accused of being more prayerful to Mother Mary than Jesus 😜

The Blessed Virgin has played such an important role in my country’s culture and history, that is integrated to being a Filipino catholic. There are innumerable Marian statues and groups in the country, too many for some people.
