Mary is important because she points us to Jesus!
She is also the FIRST tabernacle!
She is Queen of Apostles!
Without Mary we would NOT have Jesus!

Dear jbluzb,

Thanks so much for your reply. The Filipino Catholics in my parish here in the USA, some of whom are in the Legion of Mary and also attend the Bible Study my husband teaches, are beautifully devoted to Mary. It is heart-warming to hear them refer to our Mother as Mama Mary. They are extremely generous and loving to all, which is the way Mary our Mother helps us to be like her.

I’ve just begun to read more about “Our Lady of America” and appreciate more of the history of devotion to Mary in my own Country. We still have a long way to go; we need a deep interior renewal of our Faith in God and renewed devotion to the Mother Jesus gave us from His Cross – in America and in the whole world.

Again, thanks for your reply and for your devotion to “Mama Mary” 🙂

Dear Herculees,

Thanks so much for your reply. Yes, Mary is important for all the reasons you listed and I dare say for many more reasons! God chose to give us Jesus through Mary – He is Love and His Ways are so far above our ways – we cannot begin to plumb the depth of all He wills and permits, but we can believe and trust He does all things well. 🙂

As a Protestant (Looking into the Catholic faith) I have always been bewildered by the dismissive attitude by "us’ toward Mary. I always have gravitated toward her simply because of she was the mother of Jesus. That alone made me look at her as unique and important.

Thank you for your post

Dear go - Irish!!!

I hope I’m not misinterpreting your username, but I love my Irish Heritage, both my Grandparents were born in County Kerry, Ireland and my Mom was so Irish in her ways, that people thought she was born there too. 🙂

What a joy to read your reply! Thank you so much. Surely God’s Grace has given you that gravitational pull toward Mary. By His Grace may you continue to look into being Catholic – for Mary gave us Jesus, and Jesus gave us His Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity in the sacrament of Holy Eucharist.

Mary is not only His Mother but He gave her to all of us from His Cross in saying to John the beloved disciple: “Behold your Mother”. The Catholic Church “sees” Mary in the Light of Faith, as both Mother and Model. John the beloved disciple obeyed the words of Jesus and took Mary into his life – so must all God’s children. take her into our lives. Let me quote something from Pope St. John Paul II:
In contemplating Mary, the Church imitates her charity, her faithful acceptance of the Word of God and her docility in fulfilling the Father’s Will. By following the Blessed Virgin’s example, she (the Church) achieves a fruitful motherhood.
Mary gave Jesus “physical” birth, by the power of the Holy Spirit, now in following her example, the Church by the power of the Holy Spirit, gives Supernatural Life to the Mystical Body of Christ in Baptism and continues to nourish and upbuild all the members of His Body through the sacraments. Some early Church Fathers likened the Baptismal font to the womb of Mary. St. Bernard wisely wrote: “De Maria, numquam satis” (“Of Mary, there is never enough”). Thanks again, so very much for your reply!

It is two fold… Love of Irish heritage and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.🙂

Thank you for your kind words… I really appreciate your explanation of Mary also. i’m gonna us it in the future.

More than anyone else, Mary shows that Jesus is not for us as mere individuals. Jesus is for the whole of mankind through the Church. Mary does not “hoard” the Christ child by keeping him for herself, she shares him to the point of death and beyond. Very courageous and virtuous grace there. At the same time nurturing her son and letting him go for God’s will. As a parent, I find that thought very intimidating.

She also exemplifies true and pure virtue. Virtue is not for it’s own sake, or our own edification as individuals. She exemplifies virtue by risking the outward appearance of that very thing. She says yes to a birth that subjects her own virtue to scrutiny and suspicion. She knows that virtue always point to Christ, not to one’s reputation.

Awesome Blessed Mother.

Thanks for your loyalty to Our Lady’s University and their football team! 🙂

We need to keep praying to Our Lady for our young adults. This culture is so difficult in many ways, but “the fighting Irish” need to stand strong in the battle against evil – even when we may feel like the “underdogs” – Greater is He Who is within us than he who is in the world.

Glad to help anyone appreciate our Mother Mary! Do, please, encourage anyone you can to love Mary more!

Thanks for you reply, goout, and for your words of admiration for our Mother. Truly Mary is the Queen of All Hearts – the Mother and Model for the Church.

Dear Therese,

You are very welcome! St. Therese of Lisieux wrote her last poem on the Blessed Virgin Mary. Perhaps you have read it: “Why I Love You, O Mary!” See HERE

Blessings today on the Feast of Our Lady of Fatima, May 13!

This is what’s most relevant to me, in my current journey. I’ve read parts of “True Devotion” & have listened to the audio book several times. I’ve read “33 Days to Morning Glory”

Right now I believe as Jesus came to us through Mary, deriving his human body from her, we are to be born again through her deriving our spiritual selves from her.

I feel like a Zygote.

Dear Cjbhoward,

God is perfect in all He does. We all begin so small in the wombs of our Mothers. How beautiful that lesson is for us – as we see Jesus, the Incarnate Word of God humbly coming into this world through Mary His human mother, by the power of the Holy Spirit!

St. Louis de Montfort’s treatise on True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin has been a blessing to me and to many others. Each time I read it I learn more. It is a profound little book which has changed lives. Pope St. John Paul II wrote that his reading of De Montfort’s “True Devotion” was a turning point in his young life. His Papal Motto was “Totus Tuus” - Latin for “All Yours” – words taken from St. Louis de Montfort. 🙂

The Glories of Mary has been an amazing book and I haven’t even read half of it. The Salve Regina is beautifully explained and there are many quotes from the Church Doctors. There is also a lot of scriptural evidence and types of Mary to prove certain points. It has been helpful in giving me a greater confidence in Mary.

Oops… I think you have that backward… without Jesus, there would be no Mary. God has no limits, no contingencies, me needs…

God had a need for Mary or He would not have created Mary.

Obviously if God wished to have His Son born as a human baby boy and raised to manhood, He needed a human woman to do the bearing and mothering. Simple as that.

So, in God’s plan, No Mary would have meant No Jesus.

Here is St de Montfort on God’s need for Mary…
  1. With the whole Church I acknowledge that Mary, being a mere creature fashioned by the hands of God is, compared to his infinite majesty, less than an atom, or rather is simply nothing, since he alone can say, “I am he who is”. Consequently, this great Lord, who is ever independent and self-sufficient, never had and does not now have any absolute need of the Blessed Virgin for the accomplishment of his will and the manifestation of his glory. To do all things he has only to will them.
This in no way lessens her place in God’s plan, but God certainly has no needs

St. Louis said “absolute need”. Meaning that God could have chosen a different plan, one that did not involve having his Son be born of a human woman on earth. If you read my statement and think about it, you will see my statement and St. Louis do not contradict each other.

If, on the other hand, you want to split hairs over words in an effort to negate or minimize Mary, St. Louis and I would prefer to bow out of that activity. Good evening.

Nothing that I typed diminishes Mary’s role in the slightest. I understand that this is an emotional topic for many, but we are not glorifying Mary By putting limits on God… I think St de Montfort said it very well…good evening

The MOTHER of the King becomes the QUEEN.

And when Mary speaks, Jesus obeys.

[So, pray to Mary!]
