Why is Mary QUEEN of heaven and of Earth?
Or is this a catholic fable?
Or is this a catholic fable?
More of a Jewish way of things. Mary had one title to begin with, the Theotokos. In Latin, Mater Dei, the Mother of God. The queen of the Jewish kingdoms were the queen mother. Especially looking at the story of such kings as Solomon who had many wives, the queen of the land was always the mother of the king. Christ being the king of heaven and earth, would have his mother as queen. Why is Mary QUEEN of heaven and of Earth?

The word you are seeking is “venerate”, not “worship”. We venerate Blessed Mary in a special way (hyperdulia) ; we worship God.Mary is Queen of Heaven and Earth in two ways. She is Queen because She is the Mother of the King of Kings, making her a Queen Mother, but she is also a Queen because God gave Her additional power, making Her Queen regent. A Queen Mother only has the honor and title of being a Queen but she doesn’t really have any power. A Queen reagent however DOES have power and can and does exercise it. Queen Elizabeth II is a Queen regent (and in fact, the Parliament of England, before it passes a law still shown it to the Queen and she may or many not accept it. If she doesn’t accept it then the law can’t be passed) while her late mother was Queen in only her titles; she never exercised any power.
And yes, Mary is Queen regent, because if she was only a Queen Mother she wouldn’t have the power by God to give us grace, thereby removing her title as Mediatrix of all grace. We Catholics love her and worship her (worship obviously meaning hyper dulia) not only because she is so perfect and because she is the Mother of God (even though the latter doctrine is the whole reason why we worship her and why she is so good) but when we pray to her, when we ask her to help us we are imploring her help and capacity as Queen of heaven and earth. With her power, she can give us graces whenever she wants; she can drive the devil away from us and lessen our temptations; she can prevent God from punishing us more severely than He would.
This is completely true! Also, in revelation, it depicts a woman who bears a child. This child gets swept up by God and protected from the dragon who wants to devour the child after his birth. It depict her as clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and a crown of twelve stars. Revelation Chapter 12More of a Jewish way of things. Mary had one title to begin with, the Theotokos. Again, this is tied to Mary as the mother of God.
I’ll add to it Brendan’s perfect post about how the Bible shows us Mary’s queenship. .Christ is the final heir of the Throne of David.
For the Davidic kings, their Queen was not their wife, but their mother ( 1 Kings 2:18)
As Solomon placed his mother as Queen, she who sits enthroned at his right hand, so did the subsequent Davidic kings. This was a type, or foreshadowing, of the role Mary would play as the Queen of the new, eternal Kingdom.
As Christ recieved the Throne of David, His forefather, so did Mary recieve the same throne that was reserved for the mother of the King.
Yup! :yup:Why is Mary QUEEN of heaven and of Earth?
Nope! :nope:Or is this a catholic fable?
=Tantum ergo;8281289]Plus the fact that she is mother and Queen does not in any way make her equivalent to her son. Mary is no goddess.
To take a slightly similar case, consider King Solomon and his mother, Queen Bathsheba. While they were both human beings, not a divine son and a created, human mother, King Solomon, scripture tells us, had a wisdom so great that there has never been a person with such wisdom, before or since. So at least in one attribute, he was far above his mother. . .but nobody said, “Gee, Sol, since you’re so smart, your mother must be just as wise as you, since you’re the King and she’s the Queen, right?”
No, Bathsheba didn’t need “the wisdom of Solomon” to be “Queen”. She needed to be only what she was. . .the mother of the King.
And Mary is the mother of the Eternal King.
Concur!Yup! :yup:
Nope! :nope:
