Why is the Catholic Church giving money to organizations supporting abortion, homosexuality and Marxism?

The Reform CCHD Now Coalition published a report finding that 72 out of 192 CCHD grantees promote abortion, birth control, homosexuality and even Marxist Socialism. That’s 38%, folks!

Some of the activities and agendas which those grant monies support are appalling. There is clearly a disconnect between the mission of CCHD and the implementation of this mission, in some cases. Not a single penny of Catholic Church-affiliated funding should ever go toward supporting abortion or legitimizing homosexuality. However, there are no doubt some heterodox “Catholics” who will try to defend these grants, or cast doubt on the authenticity of the report and its analyst.

Ugh, I lost my appetite just reading some of those grant summaries. Is there somewhere on the Reform CCHD website where the dioceses involved are listed?

Sure thing! On this page reformcchdnow.com/cchd-2011-2012-grants-report/, you will see that each grantee is listed by the diocese under which the grant was made.

Very interesting, thank you. I looked at some of the reports, but I had a bit of trouble navigating it. Still, I found it interesting.

That’s interesting. I went to your links and read the reports. It seems totally out of line for a Catholic organization to give money to such things. I can only think that the money was not given to support these things but to support those involved in a way that directs them to God and the Church. In what context was this money given? Would be interesting to give the persons who donated the funds a chance to explain themselves before reaching a possible wrongful conclusion.🙂

Regardless of the intentions, there are 2 things to consider:
  1. All of these are violations of CCHD grant guidelines, which should result in the loss of the grant.
  2. Even if the intentions in giving the grants are pure, the facts remain that Catholic money was given to enemies of the Catholic Church.
 
Wolves in Sheep’s clothing are in the Church, that’s why.

Hats off to the Reform the CCHD Now! I, for one, am grateful for the extensive research they’ve done in this expose. The problem that I see with the report (repeat post - the other thread was deleted) is that because most of these grantees are involved in political expediency, there is a vast networking of money (some of it also funded by the Tides Foundation and Soros & Co.) going to other organizations with different, but similar names in different locations. (Just like the Alinskyian community organizers in your link.) I found a webpage that illustrates the various coalitions branching off in every direction. Note that the Latino Union which supports all manner of odious causes contrary to the moral teaching of the Church, was given $75,000 – this link for the Latino Union (of Chicago) names some of their coalitions: The Latino Union, Chicago Workers’ Collaborative, Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights, National Immigrant Justice Center, Latinos of the Southwest, and others:

So it’s a puzzle trying to put this all together, but after the dots are connected it’s rather frightening to see how widely they spread their net in advocating for evil against life issues.

I saw recently that the Latino Union was being praised by the Chicago CCHD. I don’t remember if they got some kind of award from the Church, or if Chicago CCHD was congratulating them on receiving some kind of award. Anyway, that’s an organization I would LOVE for Chicago CCHD to explain away.

The YouTube interview is very good. I was glad to see that the Arcdiocese of Seattle was not on your 2011-12 Grant Report. Do you have any reason to question the grantees on Seattle’s local grants? seattlearchdiocese.org/Missions/Grants/cchd.aspx
Another bit of good news is that it seems that only 25% of the Seattle Archdioces collection will go to the national CCHD if my figures are correct. The Build Hope Collection is divided between CCHD and the Catholic Communication Campaign. (50% going to Catholic Communications and 25% of the CCHD going locally, that leaves 25% of that collection going to the national CCHD).

OK, I realize that my math is wrong, but it is not 75% of the collection that goes to the national CCHD in the Seattle archdiocese

Thank you much for the compliment! I do hope that this interview best explains my disposition, my intentions, and my hopes with regard to the CCHD research. Sadly, I think that much of my intention is lost in the written word.

I remember looking at some of the Seattle groups, and didn’t find any issues with those receiving national grants, as you pointed out. I will look into the local groups for you, since you asked. But it will be a little while before I am able to accomplish that. I’ll post my findings here for you when I have some time to do this.

Why would a Catholic organization give to such things? I’m sure I don’t understand what you’re trying to say.
 
**Donate locally. Donate goods and services, not cash. **

If you want to help the poor, they need toothpaste, toothbrushes, disposable diapers, toilet paper and non-perishable canned goods. Take them to the food bank in your car, or in a cab, and donate them.

If this is your decision, not to give cash but to donate goods and services, that is good. But organizations, such as our local St. Vincent de Paul Society, need cash, too, to do all of the good work that they do. They not only help the poor and the marginalized by giving out food and goods and paying some utility bills etc. but they also employ people to run their thrift store. And they have built a women’s shelter with the help of donations from many people. Many people donate their time, services, goods and cash to make our local St. Vincent de Paul the success that it is. I would not try to persuade people not to give cash to good organizations like St. Vincent de Paul.
