Why is the Catholic Church so prejudiced?

I am writing this, because at this time I am very upset with the Catholic religion. Me and my boyfriend are truly in love and would like to get married and since I am Catholic would really like to get married in the Catholic Church. But when I talk to a priest about it he says that we most likely cannot since my boyfriend is a Baptist and since he was married twice before by a justice of the peace. I just think that is the most non christian thing in the world. What difference does it make what ones religion is or if they made mistakes in the past, we all have I sure know I have! I just think it is a bunch of ****!!! I think the Catholic Faith is old fashioned and needs to change! I guess because of this we will be getting married in the court house by a judge, if that is what I have to do!? Truly upset

Dear Janine,

The problem is not that your boyfriend is a Baptist. Nor is it a matter of punishing someone for past mistakes. The problem is that he is already married. Jesus is very explicit about divorce. No civil court can dissolve what God has united. (Matthew 19:6) The Catholic Church recognizes marriages between non-Catholics as valid.
