why is the Catholic Church the only one that has a "service" every day?

we don’t need Bible studies, per se, if we attend Mass every day… if you do that for 3 years you will hear the entire bible and the priest’s comments on it. The priest has studied theology and all kidns of other things… He has 8 yrs worth of higher education and seminary… can’t say taht for all protestant ministers…

this is the absolute BEST Bible study known to man…

but then… of course it is…

it is brought to you by that ONe true Church Christ established… 🙂

i hope you become a member… I feel Jesus is calling you or you wouldn’t be here @ CAF…

No… Scratch that… I KNOW he is calling you…
What!? Correct me if I’m wrong but are you actually being nice now?
…I’m suspicious…😦

:rotfl:

That is never gonna happen, baby! 😃
right… because most people reject the Catholic Church…

(not that that is the ONLY reason by a long shot… The main reason is that we Catholics don’t believe in oppressing people… distorted / lying history books nothwithstanding)

you can better believe no Catholic person or Catholic (truly Catholic) institution will EVER rule this world…

until the end, that is… That could be a different story… but i admit i don’t know much about what is going to happen in the future… that end times stuff…

i guess i should go to one of those lesser-educated protesant ministers to learn about that???

sorry, guess i couldn’t help it… :o

In my parish the population weekly goes from 600 to 800 people an average. Not too bad, huh?

My methodist church is about 100 people weekly! 😃
Now that I think about it - it’s all a bit weird!!

The catholic population of the parish is 50,000 (churchs own census).

There are 5 catholic churchs.

Thats 10,000 per catholic church.

In the church I attend, there are about 15 per day on a weekday for mass, and maybe 200 or a bit more on a Sunday Mass.

🤷

The other churchs are no different, In fact, one of the churchs is tiny and can only hold about 80 to 100 people and thats never more than quater full on a sunday either.

If you average that out, like 1000 of the 50000 go to church even on a Sunday.

BUT - it’s like the church caters for this and knows it because it only puts on 1 service on Sunday.

🤷

Don’t believe in oppressing people? 😛

You can say that again!

I wouldn’t worry about what will happen to the church in the end, just worry instead about what will happen to your soul.
i guess i should go to one of those lesser-educated protesant ministers to learn about that???

Seems to be contagious!😉

Maybe the Catholic Church is just fulfilling the prophesy in the Book of Malachi.
OR maybe the Catholic Church is not the only one with daily services. But, I guess that’s not possible!😉

In Christ,

🤷

Ah, heh… a priceless anti-protestant line! 😉 You did make me laugh! 😃

It’s nothing to do with money. But I often wonder why the church is open on weekdays at the exact time that most normal people would actually be at work! 9:00am.
Because, strangely enough, that’s when the largest crowds come, if you are out in the 'burbs. Downtown, Mass is typically at noon or 5:30 pm, to get the working people, but out in the 'burbs, people come for Mass at 9:00 am. We have tried having 7:00 am Masses for working people, but they just don’t come.
I don’t know why, but I can tell you this much;
My Methodist Church;
Sunday; normal service (not called mass). 9:00am & again at 6:30pm
Tuesday; Bible study 7:30pm
Thurday; Alpha course. 7:30pm
Friday; Mens Discipleship 8:00pm
Saturday; Womens Discipleship 8:00pm
There is also football classes and acting classing some where in there. 😃
Any more questions?

No its not, I remind you most non Catholic clergy must raise a family and earn a living.
So they can’t get up early? If they’re raising children, the kids must be in bed by 8 or 9 at the latest. I think the average American gets 7 hours sleep per night or less. What’s the big deal?

Typical making of accusations against the Church when you don’t know what you’re talking about. They don’t have a daily collection. Why do people think its okay to make charges against the Church when they have obviously never even attended a daily mass…this is how careless lies get perpetrated.
I can just see it in the latest Chick tract…money from daily mass is used towards building a sound proof chamber to house all the Protestants in when the Pope takes over the world.

You mean - that’s not where the money is going??!!

:ehh:

I want a refund. :dts:
😛 😛 😛

My parish has many activites similar to jmcrae…including bible study, apologetics, RCIA and lectio divino (sp?).
Daily masses are at: 6:00 am, 9:00 am 12:00 noon and Tue & Thurs at 7:00 pm
Sunday we have 6 masses.
But this is not really a contest about who has the most “stuff” going on at their church. I am not comfortable with the posts that argue " my church is better that your church" and " your church is wrong/bad." Of course, we all feel that our church is right or else we wouldn’t belong to it.
  1. Point well taken about the responsiblities of protestant ministers having families to support…the is one of the best reasons for the current rule( not dogma or doctrine) that Catholic priests ( most , I know the exceptions) do not marry…so they can give all their time to their parish…certainly a sacrifice they we Catholics should appreciate!
  2. The eucharist is the sum and substance of the Catholic church.
  3. Protestant service consist mostly of preaching and community…how can it be expected that any one can deliver a good sermon daily and to whom would he give it? The Catholic mass does not need a community to take place.
  4. We Catholics believe in the real presence of Jesus in our church…24/7…we can be closer to Him there…our personal relationship with Jesus is there and in our hearts. We can get a double dose in church
  5. Protestants believe in the presence of Jesus only in their hearts. ( and I think some at the moment of reception of communion?)
I beleive the whole difference is the Eucharist…that’s why we take Eucharist to the sick in the hospital and at home.

Please tell me if I have mis-characterized anything in this post. I’m here to learn and share not judge or denigrate.
Does the Orthodox Church have daily Divine Liturgy…I need to learn more about my Orthodox brethern.
God Bless all! 🙂

someone else already pointed this out, I wasn’t making a serious assertion (since I don’t attend Catholic mass, or any sort of religious services, I have no idea whether or not they collect monies during weekly mass – so I’ll take yours and the other posters word for it).

As for the last comment you made, since I’m agnostic and inclined toward a naturalist view I guess I can’t comment on your quarrels with protestants (except to say … I think secular culture will be the end of religion, not a different kind of religion).

The trend is toward secularism. Europe is already commonly referred to as a post-Christian civilization (which is probably accurate with the exception of a few countries, mostly in southern and eastern Europe). In the US there’s very few “real” Catholics anymore who agree with the church on critical points (such as abortion) & who view the papacy and church institution as infallible in matters of faith and morals. It’s just as bad in protestantism, if not worse (with the exception of the south and among small cults like Mormons and JV’s), and of course American Judaism probably has the longest history of strong secular influence.

We may be nearing (or at) the twilight of Christianity. However, I think Islam remains a huge threat (and it does have to be challenged much more aggressively by secularists).

I am not trying to attack the sincerity of Protestant posters (or indeed Protestants) however I have to agree here. down the road we have an Anglican (High Church I think) parish. They only have services on a Sunday and unlike the newer Protestant groups, the vicar there does not have to have a second job (he does have a family but his youngest child is now well into their 20’s). I have to ask why clergy in that position do not have more going on.

EDIT: On the other hand my neighbour is a Methodist minister who oversees three churches throughout the week so I’m not trying to tar people with one brush.
